Hey, Baldrick,
While you're here, I've been going back and deleting large attachments that aren't really productive anymore.
Is that cool? Or you would rather leave threads intact? In the old days, it was taboo to leave large attachments.
If you ever have a problem with me, or want to tone me down, please do so. Sometimes I do get a little ridiculous. This is your board and I will abide by your rules. -

did you test out the easy gif animator trial? or some of the other ones aedipuss mentioned ?

I remember trying a whole bunch out before settling on that one. It produces decent quality with small filesizes.
I just did another test today, and the gifs made with the same image sequence by AE or vdub are typically ~2x larger, and not much better in visual quality. Problem with vdub is you can't adjust the timing of each frame, and I don't think you can do alpha channel - but at least it's free
You can check out gimp too (it's like free version of photoshop) , an it looks like you can adjust the timing
