I was wondering if anyone is aware of a program that can search for duplicate multimedia files. I have used a program called D'peg for many years but it seems outdated since it would not do checksum searches for many different types of videos files like mp4's for instance. Does anyone know of a similar modern program that can do the same but preferably for free? It seems to me that this inquiry may be a bit of a long shot.

It's not free but you can try it for free: http://visualsearchpony.com/ -
Thanks for the advice but I found something that can do the trick. It's Fast Duplicate File Finder and it's free. Basically you only have to pay in order to use the filter function.
