I encoded a dvd-rip to svcd with the bitrate 2299(1000-2530)kbps
    and audio 384 kbps

When I multiplex I get buffer underflow, It drives me crazy.

Can someone please tell me how to avoid this when encoding with cce.

I do the audio with headac3he and toolame and multplex with BBmpeg.

    I'm thankful for all replies.

I tried all settings when I set the muxing rate to 0 the buffer underflow disappeared but it didn't play correctly in my dvd player wich plays xsvcd to at least 3500 kbit/s. I tried to mux as mpeg-2 program stream, didn't help. Buffer size, I tried 224, 230kb and more, didn't help. Packet size was 2324.

    I didn't try tmpgenc 12, couldn't find it.

I can't see any wrong settings in cce either, it's really strange.

If you want to avoid buffer underflows then you should stay within the svcd standard's limits. The maximum allowable total bitrate (audio + video) is about 2,788,800 bps and you are well over that when your video hits its peak. To avoid buffer underflows you will need to either lower your audio bitrate or lower your video max bitrate.

I don't know what else to tell you, setting forced mux rate to 0 usually eliminates all buffer problems at the expense of an increased filesize. I've never heard of it causing any playback problems.

Also, though its unrelated to your problem, your min bitrate setting is way too low. The min setting should be equal to the lowest amount of bitrate you expect to use on the least complex scene in your encode. For example your ending credits are going to use 1000kbits when they would look just as good at 300-500kbits and that extra bitrate could be used in another scene where its needed more. When encoding svcds you should probably set your min setting no higher than 500kbits.

  6. so, if I use TMPG to encode video only and left the bitrate at the default SVCD level, that caused my underflow errors???
    background:
besides banging my head a lot more these days dealing with (s)vcd,
used tmpg to encode only the vid, no audio. also I left the bitrate at the svcd template level. encoded the video and then used BeSweet and ripped me a mp2 file. then mulitplexed with bbmpeg. video pts/dts underflow at pack ........
is that caused by leaving the bitrate way to high???? and the way I was doing it, how would I go about figuring out what bitrate to use???? anyone got a goot bitrate calculator or link for me??????
