Quite a ways back Microsoft got rid of Outlook Express and introduced Windows Live Mail...I had to try and set up an email client for someone quite a long time ago and could never get Windows Live Mail to work. It seems that you have to have a Hotmail/Live email account to use Windows Live Mail. My question is, can you get around having to have a Hotmail/Live account to use Live Mail in Windows 7?

Yes. You can configure it with any pop or imap email connection. I use it together with google imap connection.
What exactly doesn't work? -
my issue is every time I tried to open Windows live Mail a Pop up would appear wanting me to login into a hotmail account first. If I don't have one then this pop up is not needed. I couldn't find anywhere where I could turn this function off. I have to install an email client here in a few days and I don't mind using Thunderbird but it's easier to just transfer the files from an old Outlook Express account to Windows Live Mail. The people I will be doing this for don't have a hotmail account..and they don't want one. So is there an way to turn off this login to Live/Hotmail account when you start Windows Live Mail in Windows 7?
