I own many commercial DVDs, most concerts. What is the best way to make an audio CD of selected songs from the DVD ? I have aMac and PC (i7).

Rip the DVD with DVDDecrypter - stream processing - audio only - by chapter.....convert those to 44.1 .wav files and burn to a CD. Plenty of free audio editors can do it(convert to 44.1 .wav)....Ii use CDWave and GoldWave mostly.

Actually, what I would do as a variation on that is to rip the dvd as a single file (as most concerts are continuous), but also get the chapter marks, resample to 44.1k, and then add those timecodes (and maybe CDtext info) to the track marker points in the CUE file. Then, I'd probably use ImgBurn to burn the CD.

I don't know what you mean by that. The audio editing programs are not allowing (or choosing) the songs...YOU are with DVDDecrypter.

you can use PGCdemux to demux the audio stream(s) from the dvd...use any audio converter to down-convert the ac3 file to mp3 or .wav or whatever..then use mp3directcut to "cut" up the audio file to individual title tracks

What do you mean by "multi-track"?
CD audio does NOT officially support multi-track/multi-channel audio. Nobody who has responded has taken that into account. It is theoretically possible to create a DTS (requires you to either spend a boatload of money or get illegal warez) or AC3 multi-channel CD audio disc by wrapping the DTS or AC3 track in a WAV header, but it's not trivial to do that. Here's a link to some info on making an AC3 CD. It's not easy.

Do note that some CD only players such as in cars may refuse to play such discs or may not play them correctly.
If by "multi-track" you just mean something like a different track for each song and 2 channel stereo audio is OK, then what you have been told already is sufficient. -
That's exactly how I do it, it's easier when the DVD has 2ch AC3 or LPCM audio. What's nice about CDWave is it will automatically correct the header issue when converting to 44.1KHz WAV. Splitting by chapter makes it easy to make tracks, just select 0 pre-gap when burning and you will get a seamless CD.
