Letter being covered up by the letter next to it

The "ji" in "ijigen" is being covered up by the "ge". In the Aegisub preview, it isn't. I've tried rendering with WMPC, ffdshow and VobSub, same thing.

Does anyone know a fix?

Try adding a space or two between "ji" and "ge." You might also want to experiment with different (proportional) fonts.

You could also use a monospace font, but that's probably more of a last resort, in this case.

Hm, if I put a space it appears as a regular space (it doesn't just fix the overlap; it creates a gap), and putting it to a monospaced font doesn't do anything.

Does it exhibit the same behavior if you add the space and italicize the line?

What version of vsfilter/directvobsub are you using? There's been an update or two lately (not that I'm sure it would make a difference). Also, while I'm not confident about VLC's ability to render every possible ASS effect, you might grab a portable version of the latest version and see how it renders the line.

I'm not at the system I use to work with subtitles, right now, so I'll have to wait to take a look at the file.
