  1. I'm using TMPGEnc to encode video into VCD or SVCD format, and i'm not really sure about the INTERLACE / NON-INTERLACE settings.

In TMPGEnc, under SETTINGS, under the VIDEO tab, there are 3 choices for "Encoding Method":
    1) When should I use INTERLACE for an encoding method?

    2) When should I use NON-INTERLACE for an encoding method?

    3) When should I use Inverse 3:2 Pulldown?

    4) Why does NON-INTERLACE encoding take longer?

    5) Which encoding method will produce a bigger file size?

    6) Which encoding method should I use when making VCDs and SVCDs to play in my standalone DVD player?

In TMPGEnc, under SETTING, under the ADVANCED tab, there are 2 choices for video source type:
    7) What kind of video sources are INTERLACED ?

    8) What kind of video sources are NON-INTERLACED ?

I would appreciate any help. TMPGEnc help is not too good!

    Thanks,

  2. You don't have to answer all the questions if you reply.

If you only know the answer to one of the questions, I would welcome that also!

    Thanks again,

  4. 1) When should I use INTERLACE for an encoding method?

WHEN YOU INTEND TO VIEW THE VIDEO ON TV

    2) When should I use NON-INTERLACE for an encoding method?

WHEN YOU INTEND TO VIEW THE VIDEO ON A COMPUTER MONITOR

    3) When should I use Inverse 3:2 Pulldown?

WHEN YOU'RE TRANSCODING FROM NTSC(29.97FPS) TO FILM (24 FPS)
sOME PEOPLE BELIEVE YOU GET A MORE FILM LIKE VIDEO AT 24 FPS

    4) Why does NON-INTERLACE encoding take longer?

NTSC IS NATIVE INTERLACED. IT HAS TO COMBINE 2 FIELDS INTO ONE FRAME.

    5) Which encoding method will produce a bigger file size?

    DOESN'T MATTER

    6) Which encoding method should I use when making VCDs and SVCDs to play in my standalone DVD player?

SVCD USES MPEG2. MPEG 2 RECOGNIZES BOTH INTERLACED AND NON INTERLACED. YOUR STANDALONE DVD PLAYER PLAYS ON TV, SO LEAVE IT INTERLACED(YOU'LL SEE MOTION ARTIFACTS ON THE COMPUTER MONITOR)

In TMPGEnc, under SETTING, under the ADVANCED tab, there are 2 choices for video source type:
    7) What kind of video sources are INTERLACED ?

hOW DID YOU ACQUIRE? IF YOU USED A CONSUMER DV CAM, CAPTURE IN INTERLACED. iF YOU USED A tv SOURCE, LEAVE IT IN INTERLACED.

    8) What kind of video sources are NON-INTERLACED ?

"FRAME MOVIE MODE" ON CANON XL1S AND SONY VX-2000 OR ANY OTHER "PROGRESSIVE" SOURCE
