  1. Hello,

I'm new here but done my share of video convertion before. Currently I am stuck with a .dad video file. It should be avc/h264 elementary stram (according to mkvmerge) without audio downloaded from a video surrveilance device. If I put it into a mkv container I get a video file where the real video is not seen as it has a gray layer on top of the original video.

Thanks for reading, any ideas how to remove the gray?

I upload a small sample mkv for you.

  2. I plays ok for me in MPCHC, KMPlayer, and WMP. VLC shows a gray window though. ffdshow (libavcodec) and CoreAVC decode the picture properly. ffmpeg decodes to a gray image.

  4. I also tried playing the file with my WDTV. It didn't play the file but didn't give any error message.

I have a home security DVR, and it can convert to AVI before letting you download it. Look for that feature in yours.

  6. Looked for it and anything related to exporting video, even looked at the manual but I couldn't find anything. It is a strange kind of soft (called IMS200) that doesn't have any info about the makers visible inside the program nor in the manual.

  7. You might try muxing the elementary stream into an MP4 container instead.
