My gifts came from several places. I bought gifts online, at brick-and-mortar specialty stores, and from a printed catalog via telephone. My nephews are getting cash because one is going on a trip next year and needs some spending money, and the other never said what he wanted.

  7. I have a coal bin and am tempted to give a couple folks an unexpected present.

Alas, the wife would exact her revenge if I did. So it'll be cash/gift cards and Whitman's boxes for everybody, I'm terrible at choosing presents.
    Pull! Bang! Darn!

I have photos of when my daughter and son were 9 & 10 years old (about 18 years ago) and they opened the only presents under the tree and they were 2 pieces of coal wrapped in a nice little box with tissue paper and a bow!!!

    They freaked!!!!
    LOL!!!

Then their mother and I gave them their presents for real, they were so spoiled!!!
But it was so fun to see them open their 1 box with a piece of coal wrapped all nice and pretty!!
    LOL!!!

I too stock a few lumps of coal for strategic use.

Beware pols that bear gifts, also telemarketers.

Very simple for us. My wife and I don't exchange gifts. It's all for our son. I bought two items locally and she ordered the rest via Amazon. And my family overseas also agreed NOT to go through the hassle of sending gifts 4000 miles away.....so it's just "us 3"...and only one of us gets gifts. LOVE it.

I get a lot of 'gently used' stuff from work (like light fixtures, fans, appliances, etc.) and everyone can use a decent washer or fridge....
