  1. do vcds play smoother when burned at lower speeds? i burned one at max and there were a few messups in the playback. i was wondering if i burned one at 1x, would that minimize the messups?

I've read that most people will do a 4x and no faster because their dvd player had problems. Although some peple burn at full speed with no problems.

Depends on the quality of the burner and the media. Esp. if you're burning at anything faster than 12X on cheaper media, there are always reliability issues. YMMV.

I burn all my movies at full speed(8x). I use the cheapest blanks I can find. I have a Plextor Plexwriter.

I do know that when doing audio its best to burn at a lower speed, So i'd say unless your having probalem burn um fast.

  6. Hi,

First off, it indeed depents on you recorder. I have a YAMAHA SCSI burner and as with al newer YAMAHA type it has the "Optimal Writing Speed Control" and "Pure-Phase Laser System" which check how to best write a CDR(W). On the other hand, and this an important one BURN-PROOF WILL SCREW UP A VCD. When a bufferunderrun happens, the drives stops recording and fills up the buffer before continuing to burn. This causes a tiny little gap in the recording process. This is no problem at all for formats which have errorcorrection/CRC checks. But for formats who do not use this is causes glitches in playback. This happens when burning VCD, SVCD and Audio. So when burning a VCD, best to do a test run first to see if it works, and then do a burn without Burn-Proof or Just-Link.....
