Hey,

Small problem - i have a movie here in *.avi format. I want to convert VCD format. I know how do to this (done it many times before, all worked fine) but i have come across something that just has me stumped.

First off - The there is two avi files both 700 megs (DVDRips) i didnt encode them. Using virtual dub i wanted to extract (uncompress) the audio from it. I am using a guide that tells me to uncompress the audio to a wav file (to use with TMPGEnc). When i try and do this Virtual dub is telling me that it does not recognise the compression format of the audio in the avi file. When i use Virtual dub to get the file info this is what is displayed -
Video Stream
Frame size - 640x272, 23.976fps
Decompressor - DivX MPEG-4 Low-Motion

Audio Stream
Sampling - 48000hz
Channels - 5(Stereo)
Sample Precision - 0-bit
Problem bit - Compression - unknown (tag 2000)

I know there is no need to get the Wav file but it works out better if i do.
I then taugh that maybe whoever encoded the file changed the file extension manually (it is a 700 megs file - only 58 mins long - sounds like it is mpeg already), but that is not the case either (virtual dub loads up the file instantly (if it was mpeg it would take a min or 2)
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Secondly, i tried something else

Gave up on the wav file and said i just use TMPGEnc, using the avi file as the video and audio source.

When i tried this it only loaded up the file for the video, when i tried to load the same avi file for the audio it gave an error message (Can not open OR Unsupported)
----------------------------------------------------------------------

Has any one come across this problem.
I was thinking that maybe what ever audio coversion codec was used, i dont have installed on my machine. I have quiate a few so maybe there is some obscure one out there that i never heard of.

Anyhelp would br much appreciated

Cheers
