  1. Hi,

I recently bought "Sony HDR-XR 155E" camcorder,i thought it has USB steaming as a webcam but when i tried its not working. I called Sony customer care they told that this model doesn't support USB streaming.

After that i went on browsing for a solution Some say use fire wire port, some say use "Easy cap" and some say use some other 3rd party tool, and some say this won't work.

Here my question is can i use this model for live streaming? if yes please tell me the possibilities in detail(what hardware or software and cables should i purchase and where) because in many forums it wasn't clearly mentioned.
If i can't use this model for live streaming please suggest me the perfect model camcorder for live streaming.

    Thanks in advance

Moving you to our camcorder section.

Nope, I have no idea if you can use it for live streaming.

sony lists it as having NO usb streaming right on their product page. it doesn't have a firewire port either. easycap is a hardware device you could use to capture the video out.

AVCHD camcorders lack live compressed streaming over USB. Only options are analog or HDMI (uncompressed).

Most HDV camcorders stream HD MPeg2 or SD DV over Firewire. These are commonly used for live upstream with products like Wirecast or Flash Media Live.

Most Sony DV camcorders stream DV over Firewire or 352x240p over USB (intended as webcam).

Other brand DV cams vary. Check specs.

Hardware options for that camcorder are direct analog capture (SD) or HDMI capture with BlackMagic Intensity or HD analog component capture with BlackMagic Intensity Pro. Streaming software support would take some research.

Easiest solution is obtain a DV format camcorder, connect Firewire to computer and upstream standard def with free Adobe Flash Media Live software. This configuration will work for live streaming through free services like Ustream.

Note that live HD upstreaming requires considerable uplink bandwidth from your ISP. Start with SD @ 720x480, 640x480, 352x480 or 352x240 (or PAL equivalent).
