  1. Hi all,
I want to buy a DVD player, searched throughout the forum and read the compatibility lists, and ended up with this:
Either to buy Apex AD-1500, Apex AD-700 or Mustek 520/560 as they all support mp3, vcd, svcd, xvcd, xsvcd, dvd, cd-r, cd-rw, dvd+rw and can play any mpg recorded cd-roms and they are all very easily hacked for region free (pls correct me if am wrong).

As I will need this DVD player to be played in my PC too, in order to COPY DVD Films to my Hard-disk then convert them into DIVX Format, I wonder which one of the two (Apex or Mustek) has this facility to be connected to the pc (IDE maybe) and work as a normal DVD/CD player? Or is there any other type of player has this ability?!

You can connect the video out of the DVD player to the video in on your capture card and then convert, but nobody really does this. You will need to get a dvd-rom to do it properly. (I bought mine for $19.95 after rebate.) Use Smartripper to copy the dvd to your hard drive. Then convert the vob files to whatever you want.

  3. so, no one of the stand-alone dvd players could be connected to pc through any mean (IDE or SCSI or whatever) to copy DVD films??

may be I should think of a SCSI PC-DVD player, what is the best one that can read all the formats? i.e. mp3, vcd, svcd, xvcd, xsvcd, dvd, cd-r, cd-rw, dvd+rw?

You cannot connect your dvd player to your pc other than analog I/O. If you want to get a good compatible dvd player, go with the Apex 1500. Make sure you don't get one that starts with the serial# "SV". You cannot disable Macrovision on these. Circuit City has them now for $69.99

  5. Consumer product will not have unnecessary interface on them.
When did we ever come across a CD player that has a IDE or SCSI interface ? To dup a DVD or music CD, you need to go get a DVD_ROM drive.

  8. Im not sure why you want a SCSI DVD-ROM drive. Origionally you
said IDE was ok. You can get a combo CDwriter, DVD-Rom for
less than a SCSI drive. It's not clear what you want to do, but if
you want to make backup copies of DVDs, you will need a CD writer.

Also, to play a DVD, VCD, SVCD, ect. on your PC with a DVD-ROM drive,
you need software. The DVD-ROM drive just reads the data, the software
reads the file formats. (I'm not sure about dvd+rw but the others should all read on a DVD-ROM.). Check out the FAQ links over
    <<<-------- Here.

    Try
How do I play a VCD on my computer?
How do I play a SVCD on my computer?
How do I play a DVD on my computer?
I mean it in the nicest way.

  10. Hi, thanks guys for reply,

Ok, about the SCSI drive, I was looking for a SCSI dvd player as I have Two IDE CD's (Normal one and an HP 9700 CD/W) an I have a SCSI connector already.

anyhow, after I read your suggestions, I'm now thinking to buy the Apex AD-1500 dvd player, and another IDE, DVD-ROM player (for ripping DVD Discs),

so what is the best IDE, DVD-Rom (region free)?
    please suggest to me something
    thanks

  11. best dvd rom drive in m.h.o is Pioneer 116, and there is a patch to make it RPC-1. not sure why you need it region free unless you deal alot with other region dvd's ( have yet to deal with anything other than region 1 ).
