  1. I'm having a heck of a time dealing with a few AVI files I recently downloaded from MegaUpload.
Since these are AVI's, I can choose to watch these on MegaVideo on the download page. From there, the videos play perfectly normal, but with the lackluster quality you'd expect. And while I could solve all my problems by grabbing the flv while watching it, quality is an issue in this case.

Not only does MegaVideo recognize the videos perfectly well, but Internet Download Manager sees the AVI's just as well, specifying their correct type length and resolution. So whatever the problem is likely happens as soon as it is downloaded onto my computer.

And now onto the things going wrong...

    - Opening the AVI in Media Player Classic brings up an AVI Chunk Viewer window, which looks like this:

I'd like to know what that all means, but looking up AVI Chunk Viewer leads me to several results from folks asking how to get rid of it. Hopefully it means more to someone else reading this.

    - VLC tells me the AVI is broken and offers to fix it. Repairing the index gives me a video of the first 5 seconds.

    - BSPlayer thinks the 15 minute video is 22 and a half hours long, plays the video but shows a lot of glitchy sections of video (when not freezing) - should mention that MPC now does the same thing, though it didn't used to.

    - DivFix counts 143 errors and creates a worse version of the video than BSPlayer or MPC.

    - AVI ReComp tells me that the AVI is invalid, and that "chunk size extends outside of parent."

I've tried other things, though I can't remember at the time of writing. Suffice to say nothing's worked. Either it won't play or it plays in a way that's unwatchable. Why MegaVideo can watch this just fine and I can't is beyond me.

Any help troubleshooting this thing would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

How big is this file? Open it with Mediainfo, put it in view/text mode and put the info in this post.
May help responders diagnose the problem.

Can you provide a link to one of the megaupload files?

Opening the avi with VirtualDub, choosing Direct Stream Copy for both audio and video, and saving as avi usually gets rid of non-interleaved problems and stops chunk veiwer popping up in MPC. However, it sounds like there may be other problems with this file too.
