No, I don't lure cats to my yard. When they start crapping somewhere, they come back and keep doing it in the same spot, and you have to break the cycle.

I NEVER harmed any animal in my life. I live in LA, and this is the system here.
If I trap ANY nuisance animal and "relocate" it by driving a few miles away, THAT would be inhumane. They would not be able to survive and that's cruel and stressful to the animal.
Sometimes when I'm trying to trap a nuisance cat, I trap a possum, and I release them right there on the spot unharmed because animal control won't take them.
Everything I do is in FULL compliance with the Los Angeles County Animal Control procedures, and in compliance even with extreme "animal rights" groups.
The only inhumane part of this is the pet owners that are irresponsible.Last edited by budwzr; 16th Dec 2011 at 10:44.

No, the irresponsible pet owners do!
You don't understand that cats are territorial, and follow a route when they forage for food, just like pigeons. If you feed pigeons in the same spot for a few days, at the same time of day, they will continue to come back AT THAT SAME TIME OF DAY even when you quit feeding them.
Once a cat puts you on it's route, the poopings will occur in the same way, and the urine from the tomcats will start to stink, because they will mark their route this way.
And if you have a flower garden with loose mulch, they WILL try to bury their scat, and one day when you're weeding you'll step on it, and the smell will make you want to vomit. There's no worse smell than wild catshit feces. It's GROSS.

You know what man, this is kind of like an abortion debate, where both sides are completely polarized, so there's no middle ground.
But the reality is that there is an overpopulation of some species, and associated problems, because some people can't or won't understand that letting pet cats run wild and breed at will is creating this problem.

One of who? Someone who doesn't kill cats for crapping on their lawn? Yes. We have a dog to keep the cats and opossums away. Not a big mean cat-killer dog. Our dog would probably just want to play with the cat. But that's enough to keep them away.
If you must know, I'm pro choice and an atheist. I don't think a fertilized ovum, or a blastula, is a sentient creature with the full rights of a human being. The trimester system is fair as far as I'm concerned. And you can't argue that humans aren't a far worse blight on the environment than any other species.

Probably just trapping the cat an leaving it there for several hours will be enough to keep it from coming back. Don't pset stores sell products that repel cats? People tell me that putting half filled jars of water around the garden keeps cats away. I find that hard to believe but people swear by it.

OK, I'll try that next time.
I usually cover the trap with a small blanket so they don't get too traumatized and try to scratch their way out. With the cover on, they will become calm after the initial capture, so the impact is minimal, but I'll give it a try.
If that works, it'll be even easier for me because I don't have to drive them to animal control.
We'll see.
P.S. The "repellants" don't work. I've tried them all. Wish it was that easy.
