I've seen people talk much about the DXVA. I would love to try on encoding a DXVA video in x264.
I checked with XMediaRecode but there is no DXVA profile.
I would like to know the specific settings for DXVA Encoding.

Are you looking to use your graphics card to encode the video or are you just looking to make a video with settings compatible for playback via DXVA?

I am wanting to make a video with Settings compatible for playback via DXVA

DXVA is a spec for playback software to draw on display card hardware to assist decode, deinterlace or scaling. Also direct output through the display card. The types of assist available depend on the capabilities of the display card.
So are you asking about software players or source formats or display card selection?

I don't know Xmedia Recode but if it doesn't have DXVA presets you can use this as a guide:

Most important are the b-frame and re-frame limits. Many graphics cards can exceed those limits but if you want to be sure your videos play on all DXVA devices you should stick with them.
There are other programs with explicit DXVA presets. Xvid4Psp and Megui, for example. -
At the API level, DirectX/DirectShow have software processes for all calls. If the display card says it can do certain processes in hardware, those functions are directed to the display card for execution. The expectation in the display card can do this faster or maybe better.
Some playback software provide user control of what gets done in software vs hardware.Last edited by edDV; 9th Dec 2011 at 20:35.
