Hey guys,
im pretty new to the whole video stuff etc., so please be aware that my understanding is quite low...
Most recently, I have some problems with the records of my Hauppauge HD PVR. These records are M2Ts files. I import them in sony vegas pro and it crashes when I try to edit the record. After some research, I found out that the records are recorded with 119,xxx fps instead of 59,xxx fps. I know already the reason for that (some driver issues), but I want to save the old records.
Currently, I use a tool (ArcSoft MediaConverter), that was delivered with the HD PVR, to convert the videos. Unfortunately, the records suffer a slight quality loss. Hence, Im looking for another way to reduce the fps of these records.
I saw in another thread that it is appropiate to use MediaInfo to provide information about the video files, so here are the information for one of these records:
interestingly, the frame rate is given with 59,940 fps. When I select this record to import in vegas pro, it shows 119,xxx fps. Is there are convient way to save these records?Code:General ID : 0 (0x0) Complete name : xxx\20111203_001216.m2ts Format : MPEG-TS File size : 1.52 GiB Duration : 15mn 14s Overall bit rate mode : Variable Overall bit rate : 14.2 Mbps Maximum Overall bit rate : 18.0 Mbps Video ID : 4113 (0x1011) Menu ID : 1 (0x1) Format : AVC Format/Info : Advanced Video Codec Format profile : Main@L4.0 Format settings, CABAC : Yes Format settings, ReFrames : 4 frames Codec ID : 27 Duration : 15mn 14s Bit rate mode : Variable Bit rate : 13.1 Mbps Maximum bit rate : 20.0 Mbps Width : 1 280 pixels Height : 720 pixels Display aspect ratio : 16:9 Frame rate : 59.940 fps Color space : YUV Chroma subsampling : 4:2:0 Bit depth : 8 bits Scan type : Progressive Bits/(Pixel*Frame) : 0.238 Stream size : 1.40 GiB (92%) Color primaries : BT.709-5, BT.1361, IEC 61966-2-4, SMPTE RP177 Transfer characteristics : BT.709-5, BT.1361 Matrix coefficients : BT.709-5, BT.1361, IEC 61966-2-4 709, SMPTE RP177 Audio ID : 4352 (0x1100) Menu ID : 1 (0x1) Format : AC-3 Format/Info : Audio Coding 3 Mode extension : CM (complete main) Codec ID : 129 Duration : 15mn 14s Bit rate mode : Constant Bit rate : 384 Kbps Channel(s) : 2 channels Channel positions : Front: L R Sampling rate : 48.0 KHz Bit depth : 16 bits Compression mode : Lossy Delay relative to video : -50ms Stream size : 41.9 MiB (3%)

Apparently Vegas has issues with certain versions of the HD-PVR, probably firmware or driver issues like you said. Other editors like Premiere do not seem to have the problem
There is a workaround by re-wrapping the file with ffmbc. Re-wrapping just copies the video into a different container, so quality is unaffected. You can find it in this thread, page 2

This sounds very good and if this is going to work, i will be a very happy guy. Unfortunately, I dont have the possibility to check it out right now, but I will keep you updated... Thanks anyways!

It works! Awesome!
Thank you very much. Even though the solution is not trivial (atleast from my point of view), I got a quick and uncomplicated response. Lucky me that you saw this thread...
