  1. maybe like a little step by step process from mpeg to vcdimager type thing...is there a guide around that explains this or just the manuals that basically tell you what the things do rather then what to use and in the order you should use them?

I definitely agree! Is there anyone who can do one?

Just a simple "Do A then B then C" would suffice.

I can't even find out how to have ONE movie (track) have multiple chapters or entrypoints!

  3. You might need to even go back all the way to square one with me. I tried vcd2xml and I'm having some fundamental (or maybe just mental) problems. I have vcdimager in the same folder, but there is no xmlbuild.exe which vcd2xml tries to call to.

Once the xml file is created, what do I do with it? I did a search about vcd2xml and vcdimager on this site and I just don't get it. I understand what vcd2xml is doing, but I am just not understanding how to create a menu that a standalone DVD/VCD player will recognize. Nero will not work with my CD-RW burner, so I use Easy CD Creator.

  4. Whew...I'm not the only one. I unzipped it and read the read me file and promptly closed it. I think the guide needs to be real precise and in plain terms that us numbskulls can understand.

  5. I'm starting to catch on a bit and I can see I've got a steep learning curve ahead. What I am having a problem with is trying to find the xmlbuild.exe file! I've downloaded three different versions of vcdimager and there is no xmlbuild.exe! Where is this mystery file so I can create by bin/cue folders? I am thoroughly confused!

  6. the file is called vcdxbuild.exe and it comes with vcdimager zips, tar, whatever for all the different versions

What u guy may not underdig right yet is that the program allows you to do alot maybe too much for a newbie, but if you start with basic concepts and carefully dissect the sample xml's on the hvrlab.org website you can decipher what modifications u need to make to accomodate ur own creativity.

  7. Sorry... vcdxbuild, not xmlbuild. (Still a newbie)

I finally found vcdxbuild.exe with the 0.7.x releases of vcdimager, so I'll try it now... thanks. I couldn't find it with the 0.6 releases and earlier.

  8. Although I can understand your confusion, it is also somewhat irritating to read these again and again.

Go to the VCDImager site. All the information is there. The XML system was only introduced in v0.7.x so obviously VCDXBUILD won't be in previous versions.

Download the newest version and read the manual!! You can't complain on why you can't get it to work if you haven't even bothered to read what to do yet.

I've written an introduction to the XML system with VCDImager here: http://www.geocities.com/medinotes/vcd/general_xml_structure.html

This, with the XML examples in the VCDImager site should give you enough information to start using it. It takes patience to learn how to use it -- and please think things through before posting a problem you are having. Thinks are more obvious than they seem.

I may write a tutorial series on how to use VCDImager soon -- from very simple features (like single tracks, simple multitrack) to more complex features like menus, entrypoint, etc.

  9. Vitualis, I am sorry if this post upset you and i do understand where you are coming from. I just thought this because anyone could learn how to do something if they commit to it but when you have guides it sure helps the process. I have read all the stuff with vcdimager and xml and have succesfully created a svcd with chapters. I am just saying this because this xml stuff is becoming very popular and there should be a guide on this like there is on just about everything else.

thank you for all the hard work you have done and continue to do. without this site and work from you and others i would not be where i am now when it comes to vcd's and svcd's.

will be looking forward to any guides you might put out. thanks again

  10. I suggest you go to http://www.ttool.de/indexe.htm where you find TSCV, a small util that will
    1) let you simply add mpegs
    2) ALLOWS chaptering, jsut enter the secs offset
    3) press create cue/bin or just xml
    4) burn

    IT WORKS

  11. virtualis, I understand how you can be irritated by questions by several newbies on a subject that has been discussed over and over again. For that, I apologize.

In my defense, let me tell you that I went to the official VCDImager site as well as a few others that gave tutorials and guides like you wouldn't believe. I read them all. I told you that I was missing a fundamental piece, and it was that some of the tools I was looking for were not available except in the beta version. I thought I stated upfront that I needed help on one particular portion that I was missing, and I thank those who responded for helping me out.

Now let me offer a suggestion to you. I would assume that you needed to learn VCD authoring at some point in your life and you learned by 1) reading the manual, and 2) by asking questions. No doubt you also spent a couple hours downloading and reading manuals but still had a question to ask that was necessary to "break the dam," so to speak. I would also assume that this forum is a help for all people, and that includes newbies. I ask that you bear with those of us who are learning and help out as you can. Thank you for your help on this forum and I apologize for any offense.

  12. Sorry about the double post... I had some extra to add, and I apparently don't have permission to edit or delete my posts.

    Sorry for the wasted bandwidth...

  13. There is no problem with asking questions that are intellegent and well thought out.

It is irritating to read questions which can be answered by simply reading some of the guides on this site or the software documentation (e.g., "xmlbuild.exe&quot. However, no offence is taken.

BTW, there is a "newbies" section to this forum for the really basic questions.

    Regards.

  14. Ahhh... I now see the Newbies section and will spend some good time there until I can play some hardball.

And I re-read your manual that I had downloaded earlier and it's clearly outlined in the first paragraph that VCDImager 0.7.x and later includes the XML coding. Duh.... not only am I a newbie, but blind as well.

    Thanks for your help, vitualis!
