I just got my new WD TV Live (latest version) that I ordered from Amazon. I was all excited thinking that THIS would play my 1080x1920 60P M2ts video files. Well, it plays the video OK, however the playback is a little choppy. But worst of all is that after 10-15 seconds, the audio just stops working. Most of these video clips are 1-3 min. in length. I updated the firmware. Anyone else have this problem?

  2. jbitakis - you were warned , I stated that new version's firmware is not tuned up , there are complainments about this, now you have to wait for updated firmware which fixes the problem or you swap your unit with WDTV Live predecessor or WDTV Live plus

I had already ordered the unit on Amazon when I saw that warning. Ok, what is the difference between WDTV Live Predecssor or WDTV Live plus & my current unit, the WD TV Live? If I remember right, the "warning" was about WD TV Live STREAMING. I think my unit is the WD TV Live.

So far the ONLY unit that has played my M2ts files is the Sony PS3. I played a full 3 min. segment FLAWLESSLY on my friend's PS3. I am getting that for me and the kids for Christmas. Maybe because the unit is a Sony, and AVCHD (m2ts) files are a trademark of Panasonic and Sony.

  4. Western digital has a bad habit of releasing updates that fix a few things but break several others. There are several generations of WDTV devices:

  5. Is it this unit ? This is WDTV Live with latest firmware that has more problems with playback of different formats. That needs to be addressed.

This is older WDTV Live and WDTV Live Plus (+ Netflix feature):

WD is not making it easy, they give a new product the same name as the old one.

Hey _AL_, who responded to the person with the WD TV LIVE Streaming issues? Someone (who may have been from WD) responded, saying that THIS WD TV LIVE Streaming, that the video 1920x1080 60P was outside the specs:

"The video format you are using is outside of the WD specifications:"

    Format : AVC
    Format/Info : Advanced Video Codec
    Format profile : High@L4.2

"The WD TV Live 3rd gen "officially" only supports up to AVC High@L4.1"

"It could be that the amount of makroblocks in your video is too high e.g. up to 522,240 / second instead of the in the L4.1 maximal allowed 245,760 / second."

All I know is that when I called and checked online to WD, they stated and it states in writing that this WD TV Live SUPPORTS M2ts files. That is what I am trying to get it to play, but with the sound issues.
Now, is WD claiming that THESE M2ts specs are "outside the specs" for this player???
But as the respondent stated, the OLD WD TV LIVE PLUS played those 1920x1080 60P panasonic video files FINE.

So is WD trying to WEASEL out of there shortcomings with this media player????

  7. They find answer to problem that is convenient to them, if they answer phones and such because they are not technicians. Old model managed to play Panasonics 60p because Sigma chip can do it and audio is not a problem either and firmware did not brake this feature and juiced out this possibility to real time playback.

New machine, different firmware and their reps will tell you what they want. They need to be bombarded with this because we all know it is possible. They listen to people that play their mkv's that they got God knows from where, illegally and most popular peoples Panasonic 50p they ignore. They need to be reminded this constantly, or it will be all over web that their playback is crippled. This is already happening as you see, so we will see after some time if their fw improves, it takes always some time for them ...

  8. Yes, 1920x1080p60 is AVC High@L4.2:

    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/H.264/MPEG-4_AVC#Levels

Even though WD only supports L4.1 the device can play L4.2.
