What's the best was of speeding up/slowing down an AVI file? In certain sections, I would like the action to move faster, and certain sections, I'd like to do a slow motion bit.

I tried changing the fps in VirtualDub; to increase the speed I change the fps to 50. However, for my slow motion bit, I changed the fps to 10. But then I found I could not combine clips with different fps.

The best result would be to get the resultant file at an fps of 25 in the end.

BTW, I'm working with DV rather than a movie.

Adobe Premiere 6 has the ultimate slow and fast motion functions and is great for editing DV. You change speed by percent of normal and can use negative percentages to create backwards motion. I believe they still have a 30-day trial on the website.
