Hello folks,
I remember in the past this topic has been discussed widely but I don't seem to find useful answers.
I have Panasonic DV-GS250. In the past, I had a desktop with firewire so video capture was not an issue. Now that I moved, I sold that desktop and use a laptop that has USB and eSATA but no firewire. The laptop I am using is Toshiba Satellite A505-S6005

Is there any possibility that I can capture DV on this machine using an additional reasonably priced equipment/adapter?
Also, the HDD of this laptop is of 5400rpm, will that cause any issue with capture?
Thanks for your comments in advance.

The specs say your laptop has an ExpressCard slot, so something like this should work. http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16839200011 ExpressCard Firewire cards may not supply power to connected devices for obvious reasons. HDD speed should not be an issue.

Ok! It's been answered while answering the OP. -
@ aedipuss,
The OP on the thread that you linked was asking about the software. The software that came with my GS250 is buggy that I knew from day 1 so didn't even bother to install it. I use Premiere Pro 2.. WinDV never worked in my hands.
@ usually_quiet and ks47,
We are on the same page. I was looking at such adapters but didn't post it as I wasn't too sure and didn't want to look stupid.
Is there anything specific that I should look for in these cards? They are priced from $5 to $60. I understand that they are not powered, apart from it, anything else?
Thanks folks for quick response. -
User reviews indicate models with chips made by TI (Texas Instruments) perform better than those with chips made by VIA.

with the software you can capture full quality DVavi from the cam over usb, no adapter needed. one of the few cams that can.

Newegg often provides the chipset information in the product details for these ExpressCard firewire adapters.
