ok so my 1 year old iomega external 1tb harddrive was making funny noises, like a clicking sound, and now the harddrive wont load at all. my pc says something about a "delayed write error" over the last week ive been loading the harddrive with movie files, the entire thing is almost full with media files. i use it everyday, so its gotten good use, never had a problem with it before, and just out of nowhere it sounds like its trying to load but cant when i power it up
im using xp,
any help?!?!?!? much appriciated!!!

I hate to be the one to tell you this, but a clicking sound is a really really bad noise to get from a hard disk drive. I would suggest not trying to use it all at this point, contact iOmega for support and or repair options. The data could still be there so again, don't use it. Your only other option is a data recovery specialist and see what your options are for retrieving the data on it.
It's not important the problem be solved, only that the blame for the mistake is assigned correctly -
so the harddrive is dieing? how long do externals last for?!?! ive only used it a year!

a clicking drive is toast. without major expenses to get the data off you may as well toss it. you would need at least the controller board off the bottom replaced from an exact same make/model drive. possibly even taking the platters out and putting them in a replacement drive.

oh for ffs..... probably a years worth if media on there... wow. : ( i didnt see any warning signs really... always ran like a champ.. how does this happen?

Do you still have copies of what you transferred over the past week? (A big phew! if you do).
If not, then always back up twice - don't rely on just one copy.
The problem with such large capacity hard drives is losing so much data in one go if they fail.
I know they're convenient (I have them), but storing a lot a data over smaller drives has advantages (especially if you only have 1 copy) - at least you don't lose everything if just one dies (although losing any data is bad enough).Last edited by mike20021969; 3rd Dec 2011 at 15:47.

all hard drives eventually die some faster than others. there never are warning signs of controller board failure. take the actual drive out of the case and see who the manufacturer is. it may be under warranty, but that won't get the data back.
that's why multi-drive nas units are suggested, they can use raid and rebuild the data after a single drive failure.--

this sounds like a nightmare. is there any way to save the data? the harddrive will still load and i can see the files, i havent tried playing them tho
online storage? file backup? anything?!!? -
it's possible it just can't write, try copying a file to a different drive.
