Is there software to merge dozens of video files (taken with the same Panasonic HD camcorder at separate times) into 1 video file. With that 1 video file, I want to alter the bitrate to allow it to be played on my bluray player. These are AVCHD (m2ts) video files. I want to change all of them to AVI and lower the bitrate to allow them to be played well on my bluray player.

Have you tried avchdcoder or bdtoavcd? They can shrink avchd m2ts and output a new avchd.

Or if you want avi divx/xvid then try join with tsmuxer first and convert to avi with freemake video converter(adware), use "to avi" and change to avi xvid profile, or use another free converter like format factory, xmedia recode or xvid4psp 5. And be sure that your blu-ray player support avi HD files.

And please try avoid create similar threads, https://forum.videohelp.com/threads/341293-Full-video-converter-9-question-about-conver...ng-to-hd-video ...if I had read that I known what you had tried already.
