  1. Hi,

I tried to capture VHS via EZCap with VirtualDub to uncompressed AVI file.
I have the ability to choose various of resolutions from the capture pin under the Video menu in VirtualDub.
The resolutions below 720x576 look fine in the preview (25fs in the status bar, still not capture, just preview with accelerator) but in 720x576 resolution the preview is freezing (also still not capture, , just preview with accelerator) and according to the status bar on VirtaulDub , virtualdub can't get more then 1 or 2 frame in second instead of 25fs.

Note: The CPU is low and no disk activity, just preview.

Do you think that the problem is in EZCap or VirtualDub or none of them???

    thanks,

Did you do the actual capture or just the preview? VD, and most video editors, may not be able to process video for preview that well. They aren't made to. But if it does the capture and it looks OK on playback with a regular player, then not really a problem. You may have to turn preview off for capture also if it interferes.

  3. Hi,

    1st thanks for the answer.

I didn't start to capture but I thought that if the preview not display correctly something not working well.
I tried to capture in 640X480 but I have a lot of insert frames and Now I tried to upgrade the disk speed by connecting this USB 2 disk to the IEEE 1394 control instead of to the USB control where the EZCap is and also upgrade the RAM to 2GB instead of only 512MB, What you think?

    thanks again

  4. I notice that happening to me after play around the settings, I closed virtualdub, remove and insert EZcap, then change the settings only once, set the allocation space in advance. (100GB-200GB)
    regards

  5. Disable audio playback and capture. Does the video situation improve?

    No

Did anyone think that separate the HD and the EZCap to different control and upgrading the RAM like i describe above will improve capture in this resolution (720x576)???

    thanks,

  7. In general: I wouldn't use an external USB drive for capture. The speed is limited by the USB 2.0 port and USB transfers are CPU intensive. Add a second internal drive instead.

512 MB should be enough RAM to preview and capture in XP (as long as you aren't doing a lot of other stuff at the same time). You need more for Vista or Win7.

But none of that would effect the preview window in Virtualdub. The CPU isn't used much with the preview. The graphics card's driver is doing all the work. Make sure you have the latest WHQL certified drivers for your graphics card.

Another thing you can try: start playing a video with a media player. Leave the video playing and the window open, then start VirtualDub and go to Capture mode. Do you have a preview now?

There's nothing wrong with using a good USB card.

The problem here is not USB, but the fact that EZCap = easy crap.
The card is a piece of junk, especially the knockoffs sold for about $10 on eBay.
That's all there is to it.

  9. What I think is that changing settings throw an exception that makes the preview skip a lot of frames, and the capture will be very slow also.
    to fix that:

    1.Close the software,
    2.unplug EZCap
    3.Plug again EZCap.
    4.Open capture software again, (virtualDub)
5.Chose your settings, correctly.(dont play with them to avoid the error).
    6. set capture file,
    7.allocate space in advance,
8.if your video standard is NTSC_M change it to NTSC_M_J. (in NTSC_M EZCap crop the colors)
9.use lossless codec like huffyuv instead of uncompressed.

    I wish you good luck.
