    Hello,

I am getting unreadable disk errors on my Philips 5-disk DVD changer. The disks play fine on other players. I have checked the spindle and laser head motors and the laser is turning on.

I would like to calibrate the laser, does anyone know how or where I could find the information?

    Thank You

Does anyone smoke in your house?

Try cleaning the laser lense with some Windex like cleaner.

Also, you can't calibrate the laser.

Cleaning the laser is the first thing most people try.

And yes you can calibrate the laser. Try searching this site and you will find guides for specific models.

I am asking those who have a clue, how-to or where to find the information for my specific model.

    Thank You

Yeah, lasers on a CD/DVD/BD drive are rarely even accessible, let alone allowing end-user adjustment. The way a FACTORY or REPAIR SHOP would "re-calibrate" a laser has to do with getting an optimal signal reflection WHEN appropriate. One needs specialized tools to do that (specially encoded test discs + guidebooks, mounting/alignment adjustment tools, oscilloscopes,...)

Other than cleaning a laser+sensor housing - with brush-disc (not so good) or Q-tip swab (only slightly better) - there is NOTHING a consumer can or SHOULD do with this part of one's equipment.

bteddy - Your player came out 10 years ago. They don't last forever. If you can't live without it then pay what it will cost for Philips to fix it, but it won't be cheap.
