I have several WMV files that I've been trying to convert for burning to DVD. When I open them just as they were downloaded, it is obvious that the aspect ratio is wrong, and that they should be 16-9 instead of 4-3. This is easily fixed using MainConcept; the resulting file looks fine, but the sound gradually goes out of sync, as is often the case when converting WMV with MainConcept (in my experience).
If I convert them using AVStoDVD or DVDFlick, the sound stays in sync, but the aspect ratio is still wrong. It might be incorrect to say that the aspect ratio is wrong; the proportions of the resulting file are correct. It is an aspect ratio of 16-9, wide and relatively short rather than almost square. But the content of the picture still looks wrong; the figures appear tall & skinny, like an El Greco painting.
I had no luck using FitCD to resize, but I don't know if I'm using FitCD correctly or even if resizing is the correct solutioni.
I've included a screenshot of GSpot.
Any way to fix this?

DVD requires a 720x480 encode for 4:3 or 16:9. The pixels are non-square.
If you look at a 16:9 "wide" render in square pixels it should look "tall and skinny". The DVD player (hardware or software) will stretch the frame horizontally to 16:9 for display.Recommends: Kiva.org - Loans that change lives.
