Converted MKV to Bluray-Seems no different?

Hey guys, nice to meet you all

I am trying to understand how this all works.

I have converted an MKV file to Bluray using TSmuxer so that I could burn it onto a BD and play on my standalone Bluray player. It all seems to have worked and plays on my player but to me appears no different then an ordinary DVD. I was also surprised that the file is no bigger then the MKV file. I was under the impression by converting to Bluray it would be a massive file and therefore give me the HD quality.

Any help would be really appreciated, thanks.

1) Upconverting the resolution will *not* give you HD quality. You're stuck with what you started with. Might as well let your HDTV do the upconverting.

2) You didn't re-encode the resolution in any case; tsMuxer can't do that. You re-packaged the file; i.e. the contents are still the same, different package.

3) You didn't specify, but I presume this is an MKV made from a DVD. Therefore standard resolution (SD). You can get the particulars with MediaInfo and post them here.

Your source is just DVD/SD quality so you can't get any Blu-ray/HD quality as fritz already mention.

Hello all... I have a question. What if my original source is HD quality and is a mkv format... When I try to convert mkv to a bluray which is BDMV, and Certificate and can hear audio but no video. Can someone help me what I am doing wrong here with converting in TSmuxer. Thanks.

Blu-ray players are extremely picky about what they will play. You usually need to stick with standard Blu-ray resolutions and h.264 properties.

Also, just a quick note about mkv. The bitrate of 863 is incredibly tiny for any video type, however I have found that with mkv the picture quality is far superior at 863 kbps then if you used just a regular mpg container format. I think this has to do with the mkv format itself? And the way it uses compression?
