You need to explain better what exactly you mean when you say "stream".

Can you connect a BluRay player to an old TV? Yes. Although the videos will not be in high definition, every BluRay player I've ever seen has an video output setting that lets it connect to old TVs and send standard definition video to them. If you have a really old TV with only one coax connector you will need a coax adapter box called an "RF modultor". If you're just trying to play discs like BluRay or DVDs on a TV that is directly connected to the disc playback device (in this case a BluRay player), this is not called "streaming".

If by the word "stream" you are really asking "Can I put BluRay discs on my BluRay player and stream them over a wireless network to a PC or device in another room?" the answer to that is "No".

bluray players can be set to send video over composite(yellow, red, white cable) if that is what you are asking.

Some BluRay players sold in the USA have wireless connections and allow Netflix streaming, but there's no PC->BD->TV connection at work here. The BD player doesn't care whether you have any PCs available or not as long as your wireless network is available. Insignia is one brand of BD player that has offered Netflix streaming in the past. You'll need to check to see what currently available models offer this.

both my lg bd570 and bd670 will use wired or wireless networking to stream netflix and others directly from the net. or play files off your computer if it is on the network with the player.

For "streaming" to happen on a BD player, there are 2 areas to take into consideration:

    1. Is the BD player network-capable? A) Wired B) Wireless C) Both D) Neither
    2. What "streaming" applications are built into the BD player? A) Netflix native BDP app B) DNLA receiver native BDP app C) Both D) Neither

If either one or both of these things are "Neither" then you CANNOT stream (through your BDP). PERIOD!
You might still be able to stream through to your TV via a different avenue/source.

If you've got 1A/B/C and 2B/C, you can still stream via an HTPC or MediaPlayer settop (like WDTVlive), using the BDP as the DNLA receiver, but if you actually have those devices, it usually makes more sense to connect direct to the TV...

If your TV only has coax connectors I already told you how to do this.

Tell us make model of TV.

Also describe your internet connection and router.

Also why a Blu-Ray player? Why do you want a Blu-Ray player?

  11. OK. I guess I don't have this right. My sister can stream Netflix through her laptop to new TV.
I thought I could stream through laptop to BR to old tv. I think I'm wrong and misunderstood what new BR with WIFI could do. I got reply from "cornucopia" and may as well be speaking in latin (no offense). I'm pretty sure I can not get netflix on my old tv.
Do you have any idea when they might start developing new TV that already has internet provided on it?
That is why I am waiting to buy new TV.

As far as I know, there is no TV at present that has an integrated browser that provides access to any website. However, there are already TVs that can access NetFlix, VuDu, Hulu and a few other internet sites that stream video or music. Just go to the website for BestBuy or where ever you plan to shop and you will see some.

There are the Sony Google TV sets that can surf the web directly.

Also you can feed your laptop to a composite TV input without a device in between. What inputs does your "old" TV have? What outputs does your laptop have?
