Before I switched computers, I had this software that would fix avi files, such as those with no thumbnails and those with no length displayed in the details. I remember when it ran, a DOS window would pop up. I believe it re-encoded the videos. I would like to be able to use it again, as it was the best one that worked for me. I tried DivFix and VirtualDub, but they don't seem to work. If anyone could give me a name, it would be much appreciated.

All I can do is refer you to our 'Tools' section for repair programs: https://www.videohelp.com/tools/sections/video-repair-fix
None of them work very well unless you have minor problems like having the index messed up. If you can open the file in VLC, then you may be able to repair it. It VLC or VD can't open it, best just to toss it.
BTW, 'AVI' files is a generic name and could be any of a dozen or more codecs. I assume Xvid/Divx most times. Drop it into something like MediaInfo to see what it really is.
And welcome to our forums. -
Hi, thanks for replying. The file will open in VLC, but not WMP. When played in VLC, it shows the wrong duration. I just wish I could remember what program I used awhile ago. I don't think it was very well known. All I know is that a black DOS box would pop up and display what the program was doing, like removing bad or duplicate frames and the AVIs would work perfectly.
Anyways, I ran it through MediaInfo and here's what I got:

If you have FFDShow installed you could activate the vp62 and vorbis decoders.
Then you could try the movie in WMP.Last edited by davexnet; 14th Nov 2011 at 11:01.
