Forgive my foolishness, but what would the wireless mic be recording to? Do they usually come with a recorder specifically to pick up the wireless signal, orrrr?

    Thanks!

    to the camcorder

The voice track that needs to be in sync should be recorded to the cam.

Ah right, that would make sense.
Manually syncing audio and video is a pain.

Would the camcorder's internal mic also simultaneously record on a separate track, or would the input take over?

    Thanks!

Depends on the cam. Most will be mono to ext mic, but Beachtek box can take 2 mics.

I plan on using whatever camera I buy for other purposes as well, hence I want high quality regardless of the intent.

So; anybody care to answer my last post before this went off topic?
    I was asked to do some filming for a paranormal group and make a video episode. I had a night shot camera but wanted a HD one. I own and use the following;
    Sony HDR SR11 , SR5 and a HC5.
I have one added IR light that was a DIY model someone made. Works well.
The stock lights on these cameras do pretty well for indoors but an added one does improve the quality.
I use a Zoom H2 for audio and those pesky EVPs that some think are a squeaky floor.

To add I too was a big naysayer and found out on the second one that there's a little something to it. I've got a few very clear responses since then. I'm a pretty logical person and after 1 shoot I was at a loss to come up with any kind of logical explanation for the events I had on film and audio. The next shoot was a 2 trip one because the "wood squeaking" told us where to go look for more info and sure enough their name was painted ( about 100 years ago ) right where they said it was. And yes we've been times and got absolutely nothing. And yes why didn't they just say their name the first time we were there? All adds to the mystery of it all doesn't it? Guess that's why TV is full of these shows and they have a good following.

  6. Sony HDR-HC1 1080i HDV camcorder + Supercircuits illuminator (can't recall which):

    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=L_tJF3QKWNA

Obviously, down-rezzed for YouTube and converted to black-and-white (original is green). It was pitch black at 3am.

BTW, just about every camcorder has an IR-sensitive sensor and an IR-blocking filter. This one, and some others, have a slider to move it out of the way and also a couple of built-in IR LEDs for illumination.

A camcorder in your budget range will have a small sensor (1/3") and create a lot of "shot noise" since you have to crank up the gain.

BTW, I live in a 200-year old farmhouse in North Carolina and definitely have a spirit of some sort. Nearly everyone who has stayed here has reported something even without knowing beforehand that there's a presence. However, it doesn't mean there should be a visible/IR manifestation to prove existance.
