  1. I am trying to run 'GUI for DVD Author' (not DVDAuthor GUI). I havent used it in a fair while on vista 32 bit, so I have forgotten how to get it fully up and running. Upon clicking on the settings menu (or on 'def settings') Im getting an incorrectly registered 'tabctl32.ocx' message, eg:-

I do not have this ocx file in the windows directory, and I have tried adding it to system32 and registering it, but it does not register correctly-so the program still fails to operate correctly. Im sure this is very simple to fix, so any help would be great, thanks

  2. Try to reinstall it, by rightclicking on the setup file and select "Run as Administrator..."

  3. thanks for the replies-it turned out that in my version of windows, tabctl32.ocx simply didnt exist-it wasnt installed. I had to download it, from http://www.ocxdump.com/download-ocx-files_new.php/ocxfiles/T/TABCTL32.OCX/6.01.9782/download.html
add it to C:\Windows\System32, and then finally register it, by running cmd.exe as an administrator, and typing 'regsvr32 \windows\system\TABCTL32.OCX'. It finally ran with no issues.

suggest that TABCTL32.OCX is only needed for software that runs on Visual Basic, an older programming language. Hopefully adding this file on vista and 7 doesnt cause any issues, but I suppose it may be time to move on to similar more up to date software. I have tried trials of Corel Movie Factory and ConvertXto DVD in the past, which I found to both be good, but have limitations that GUI did not (eg in ConvertX in the past I couldnt add audio to a dvd menu that would play entirely). Thanks for the suggestion of DVDStyler - I think I may have tried that also but will give its most recent version another shot I think Ill need to find a list of all similar software to be able to compare and work out whats best for certain tasks

There are instructions in the download section of GUIforDVDAuthor's web pages that specifically say it needs VB runtime to be installed. I did that and used GUIforDVDAuthor when I still had Vista installed. I can't recall having any problems with it. It runs fine with Windows 7 installed too, although there again I installed VB runtime. I think GFD still offers more features than DVDStyler. If you are using them, DVDStyler won't be enough.

  5. I havent used GFD in a while, and am forever reinstalling windows/applications, so I think the main issue is just with.. my memory! Ive made many backups of the program, but I think now may be the time to read my previous posts before asking questions, or add a quick note in the same folder regarding any issues that may come up, for ease and use and to (just about) remain sane lol

update- I have also received the same error with richtx32.ocx on vista.

The file was non existent so I had to download it, add it to system32 and finally register it in cmd.exe, just as before. I have managed to create a simple dvd from a very small 'now converted to vob' online youtube video in a quick test, and there were no issues with the final output, the basic menu and video/audio played fine. Ill add to this post if any more unregistered file issues show up again in vista-hopefully only these two files (tabctl32.ocx and richtx32.ocx) were required in order to run, but ill never know if there are equivalent files (of a different name) on vista and 7 already that GFD doesnt recognize (if GFD hasnt been updated/set for use only pre vista systems). Perhaps GFD needed more files, and by sheer luck I already had them installed! Does anyone know if there a list of much ocx files that GFD needs in order to run (that arent included in the download)? GFD is such a good tool, I wonder if there are any plans for future updates

    thanks
