    Closet_Geek,
Without the movie sample is difficult to determine the cause. Try renaming the file only Latin letters and put it in a directory with a simple name. For example c:\movie\film.mkv

Do you know of a possible fix for this.
I also get "Build file error" That could be from low disk space though.

    Subtitles are for Apple devices.

    thrashman,
I also get "Build file error" That could be from low disk space though.
Free space should be 4-x greater than the original file.

    J81CHAT,

If you make video with subtitles in the program Yamb, then subtitles are visible on the xbox360? I have no xbox to test ...

I found some guides but the procedure is too complicate compare to your awesome program.
If you can make such a thing as displaying to xbox360 it would be the best solution to xbox360 and ps3.
As we say an All in one video suite(Xbox360, PS3, Apple... Think about it

  9. I was wondering if anyone can tell me how to embed the subtitles without actually trans-coding/converting the video, making the words appear without having to press any button on the player? Basically, I want to know what format the subtitle has to be in that embeds it into the video stream?

    gotten14,
Can you check that the subtitles works on xbox after repackaging by Yamb? If they work, I'll add support.

    chadwilliams,
    Hardsubs demand video transcoding.

  11. i love this app, i just wish i could pick a specific bitrate for audio, like 64, 96, 128, 160, etc.? Other than that, this app is perfect!

    J81CHAT,
For QuickTime codec constant bitrate can be selected for music, for movies mode is TVBR (AAC True VBR mode)

  13. I think there was a tool that had working subtitles for XBOX 360. It was called GotSent. I think you could choose between softsubs and hardcoded subs, but I am not sure. Maybe you can look at it...

-i see...hmmm, never heard of tvbr. Which audio codec do u suggest for best compatibility with most devices (itunes, xbox360, ps3, etc.)
-m4v or mp4? mp4 is more compatible, right?

  15. I'm enjoying this tool. Thank you for the software. I'm curious if the input mkv has header removal compression do I have to put it through mkvmergeGui to fix it or does this app adjust auto-magically? Also if you accept feature requests I'd love to see it mux/demux mp4/m4v so if I have suitable video and audio tracks I can just mesh 'em.

For Apple devices recommended m4v, as it possible correct switch audio tracks and subtitles.

Did not work with these files, I can assume that when unpacking it is corrected automatically.

Maybe in the future it will be possible to add a video track as a separate file. Now you can add external audio tracks and subtitles alone or inside containers.

I played around with adding an audio track but I couldn't get rid of the one that was already there. For example, my set top box cannot play DTS(and does not have a downmix to stereo feature.) I could add AAC track, but I couldn't remove the DTS. If I removed the DTS first, then it wouldn't let me add the AAC. Kind of heads you win tails I lose situation.

    MilesAhead,
You tried mkv or mp4? Mp4 need to enable edit mode (button) and then you can delete the track.

  19. Can anyone tell me how to increase the volume of the audio regarding the video stream using SOX? Basically, I am asking what configuration listed below is necessary for an augment/increase in audio sound?

    SOX:
    compand 0.0,1 6:-70,-43,-20 -6 -90 0.1 gain -n -0.1 treble +0.1

  20. I am trying to convert avi files created with Virtualdub to MP4 with MKVToMp4 v0.221a. The avi file is x264vfw for the video and PCM for the audio. The problem is that MKVToMp4 skips the audio conversion. The log.txt for eac3to shows "The format of the source file could not be detected. <ERROR>". Any idea what might be causing this error?

Ok, so I have to do the conversion with multiple audio tracks. Then when I get mp4 output I can load it back in and delete and remux? I don't quite get it.

    Rebooter,
Probably Eac3To does not understand Avi files.

    MilesAhead,
    To fully MP4 repackig:
    1. Load MP4 file to the program.
    2. Enable edit mode.

Any chance of fixing this in a future update? Maybe add a step to extract the audio for avi files to send to eac3to?

    Rebooter,
You can extract the audio separately and load it into the program as an external track.

  26. @chadwilliams: If it's dynamic range compression you want, look at the compand calls over at: http://forum.doom9.org/showthread.php?p=779165#post779165, I also posted a small collection of compand calls other uses over at https://forum.doom9.org/showthread.php?t=165807.

    also here's how compand works:
    Code:
    sox %temp%\mono.wav %temp%\out.wav compand 0.3,5 6:-70,-60,-20 -10 -6 0.2 fade 1 2> nul
    REM | | | | | | | | | | |
    REM | | | | | | | | | | Ignore all error messages
    REM | | | | | | | | | Fade-in for first second
    REM | | | | | | | | Initial sample time
    REM | | | | | | | Expected initial level
    REM | | | | | | Overall output gain to avoid clipping
REM | | | | | Output range from zero to this number
    REM | | | | Input range from 0 to this number
REM | | | Ignore companding below this level
REM | | Soft knee companding
REM | Decay time is long to prevent rising noise in pauses
REM Attack time is fast to quiet loud music bumpers
    source: http://www.ericphelps.com/batch/samples/MP3_Recode.txt

Other than that you can do the following:
1st analyse your audio with sox: sox "path to audio" -n stat
2nd check out the 'Volume adjustment' value presented in the output of 1.
3rd boost volume with sox and 'gain X' where X is the value of 'Volume adjustment'
this should boost the audio as much as possible without causing clipping

  27. Hi,
    The program is great.
But one thing, all the tags it applied are not recognized by Zune for PC and Windows Phone.
For example, it will not detect the video type as TV Series as well as the Series Title, Episode Number and Season Number are also not recognized by Zune. Is it possible to add this feature?

    Thanks!

  28. probably if someone knows which private atoms Zune uses to set those tags because it seeems they are not the normal atoms mp4 that are normally used for it. (see: https://zunetips.wordpress.com/2008/12/29/tagging-mp4-video-files/)

Many files in Windows uses VersionInfo block to record such attributes. For example, .EXEs and .DLLs have Company Name etc. which you can see by viewing Properties of file in Windows Explorer. Zune uses same VersionInfo block for metadata of media files.

    abhijeet.pathak,
To correctly display in Zune needs to be filled Xtra atom. At this time, library mp4v2 can not do it.
