  1. Hey Oreons,

Can you or anyone tell me how to make the subtitles in my mp4 container readable on my PS3 and xbox360? Basically, is there a setting that I have to toggle in the subtitle section on mkvtomp4 program? BTW, great program, and thanks, Oreons.

    mfleigle,

Add the option to disable h264 encode.
MP4 container supports h264 and MPEG-4 Visual codecs only. Other codecs can watch in another container.

Add an option to disable "Enable edit mode?."
You want "Edit mode" has been enabled by default for MP4?

    chadwilliams,
I do not know how to do it.

Is it technically feasible (even with a hex editor?)
Sorry that i quote myself, but i noticed that you have replied to other posts, so maybe you have missed mine by mistake? Anyway, thanks in advance.

    chadwilliams,
I do not know how to do it.
I want to enter edit mode more easily.

and about the disable video encode, I want to use your application to tag, and re-encode audio from a MKV I made from a DVD. MP4Box supports DVD Video formats.

    From the MP4Box site:
The multimedia packager available in GPAC is called MP4Box.
It can be used for performing many manipulations on multimedia files like AVI, MPG, TS, but mostly on ISO media files (e.g. MP4, 3GP)

    lib3rty1,
You downloaded a full package or only the mkvtomp4.exe? I checked on win server 2008 x64, the program starts.

  13. Is there any way, to split the files after conversion?
I tried " -split-size 4294967296" in the preset settings, but it still outputted a big non fat32 compatible file.

Haven't posted in a bit, just thought I'd say thanks oreons, awesome program. I use it quite a bit, it's my go to for a lot of tasks.

In answer to chadwilliams, PS3/Xbox 360 do not support internal subs, or external sub files. Some have been able to get it to work through streaming via TVersity.

    http://forums.tversity.com/index.php?p=/discussion/27398/working-ps3360-tversity-mkv-s...flawless-easy\

PS - It will read subs from a DVD however, so it's kind of misleading IMO

  16. Hi,

is it possible to set what's in the "sort name" tag? With movies it's always the english name of the movie, and, because im german, the name is the german title. Sometimes they're very different and it all f*cks up the sort by name on aTV.

Would be gread if you could change this in a future release.

    Thanks!

open program/load file (enable edit mode if already an .mp4)

click edit in the top right toolbar/ or double click the tags line for the file you loaded

should be on the tab that opens, 7th one down should be the edit box for "sort name"

    Hi,

thanks, but i mean for example the Movie "The X Files" is called "Akte X" in german.
Now, the title is set to "Akte X" the Sort File is set to "The X Files", should be both "Akte X"
I dont wand to edit every movie - it would be nice if this sort name would automaticly set to the german title.
This could be an optional setting. Would be great!

    Thanks

As you've probably figured out by now, most programs (even external player software) use the movie name to sort your list. So typically, whatever you have in the movie name field is how it's going to be sorted (displayed). Is that what you mean?

ps- point being it doesn't matter what you set the sort name to, if the device/program never reads that tag.

  20. yea, the sort name is set to the original english movie title.
iTunes (and so appleTV) are reading this tag and sorting the movie list by it.

so the result is this how my movies are sorted, and its hard to find what im looking for if i dont know the original name:

(english title starts with, german title starts width)
    A..., X...
    B..., V...
    C..., E...
    D..., D...
    E..., X...
    F..., V...

So my movies are sorted by X,V,E,D,X,V what is very confusing browsing a list of many movies.

it would be nice if the would be a possibility to set automaticly (german) movie name == sort name

    Thanks

  21. Hello. I saw a post around Page 9 of this thread and was curious if you had any plans to revisit some type of automation or at least grouping files at a folder level for conversion?
BTW your program is very nice. I am new to this and just tried it out and was able to covert 6 of my TV shows with no changes to the default settings. Thanks for your contribution!

  22. Regarding Dynamic Range: I want a more even sound and not any huge "tops" or "lows". Which settings should I use in Mkvtomp4 for this?

  24. I'm running into an issue where when I turn on writing tags it take 1 hour to finish, without tags it only takes 10 minutes. I tried the newest .223. The log doesn't say anything specific other then "Writing tags in file:".

Oreons, I just discovered this tool a few days ago and what a time saver. This is so much easier than doing it manually. What really sets this apart are the tagging abilities. I am beyond impressed. Thanks so much for releasing this.

The repacks I've done have been successful but I think I've come across what could be a glitch in the audio comments feature. In particular, the metadata related to the track name that is read by iTunes. For reference, I'm seeing this with iTunes 10.7.0.21 & 11.0.4.4 on my Windows 7 x64 rig with different MKV source files. I don't have access to an AppleTV or iPad to see if the problem is specific to iTunes.

When no audio comments are set, this is what it looks like converted through MkvToMp4. This is normal and what you'd see from any repack:

Name:	audio_itunes_comment_off.png
Views:	324
Size:	8.1 KB
ID:	19337

This is what the track names look like when the conversion is done with Handbrake:

Name:	handbrake_itunes_comment_on.png
Views:	370
Size:	6.8 KB
ID:	19336

When the audio comments are turned on with MkvToMp4 however, iTunes drops the second parenthesis for each track:

Name:	audio_itunes_comment_on.png
Views:	332
Size:	8.4 KB
ID:	19338

The reason why I think it is specific to the iTunes tag is because the M4V appears to be labelled correctly when viewed through MediaInfo:

Name:	audio_comment_on.png
Views:	356
Size:	23.9 KB
ID:	19340

And this is a screen grab of what QuicktimePro's audio properties for the file looks like:
    Name: audio_quicktime_properties.png
Views: 1003
Size: 1.7 KB

None of this seems to affect the actual playback of the videos so it really isn't that big of a deal but since I didn't see anyone else make mention of it before I thought I'd pass it along. Thanks again for all your efforts and keep up the good work.

  28. Whats the difference to the video if I use repack mpeg-4 visual audio or if I don't use it? Does it affect the video outlook or audio greatly?

Any ETA on updating the app with more current versions of the tools? I know delaycut, mkvextract, mmg, qaac, x264 have all been updated in the last six months since the last update. One of the reasons I love Mkv2Mp4 so much is the app was regularly updated with fixes/updates
