I've had problems with ITunes and 1080p videos ever since going to version 11 of it, QuickTime will play them, but it isn't smooth. They've always played fine in MPC, and at one time played fine in ITunes too. I agree ITunes is horrible to me at video playback, it's fine for audio IMO.

Just to ask, (and if the issue ever comes up again) does MkvtoMp4 rely on the Matroska (Haali) Splitter?

I uninstalled it as I wasn't using it, when I went to run MkvtoMp4 it was giving me an error of mkunicode.dll is missing, program cannot start. Though, you could close the error and the program would start (and work) normally. Reinstalled the splitter, and voila, error gone. If anything i'm assuming its a registry key of some sort pointing to the Haali directory.

  3. I love this software. Thanks oreons for your efforts and regular updates. One issue I am currently encountering...on larger mkv movies i.e. over 10gb, after the conversion, when I try to run the mp4 through gspot, no codec info displays. The file plays on my computer but does not play through my Samsung tv. I do not have this kinda issues with smaller files. I convert the files into appletv format and as I said, no issues with smaller files. Is this a known issue or do I not have a setting correct? Any help would greatly be appreciated because I am so used to using this software, I don't want to start messing with another converter. Thanks.

PS... Would it b possible to add option to hardcode subs with this software? If that's possible, I would b using this program 100% for all my converting needs! Thanks again.

It may not be an MkvtoMp4 issue? just saying, and not necessarily a file size issue, most likely a bitrate issue. ( although they are relative to each other) The file you are trying to play on your TV , what's the bitrate? As far as I have gathered, anything above 5500-6000 for the bitrate is no bueno. Could be the cause of it not playing on your TV.

p.s. - As far as why it wouldn't show info in GSpot I haven't a clue.

You could also look into it being a 32 bit .mp4 versus a 64 bit .mp4, personally, when i'm converting large file size and don't wanna mess with command line, I use Handbrake, as you can toggle between large file size or not. As a bonus, it does have an TV preset BTW .

  5. dakon, I usually don't convert at bitrates that high. I stay between 4200-4800. Good range for me personally. Also what do you mean 32 bit or 64 bit mp4? I used to use handbreak before I started to use mkv2mp4. One day, the movies I converted through handbreak started running into the same issue of not playing through my Samsung so I started using Mkv2mp4. Also handbreak is soooo slow. My alienware is running a 3rd gen i7 with 32 gigs of memory and it take 10-12 hours to convert a 2 hour 10gb movie on high priority setting in handbreak.

Hmm, not sure what might be the problem, have you converted before ( with same program/settings) and they have worked?

Really you can ignore the 32bit vs. 64bit thing, as far as I can tell, it's still a Theory*, though a viable one IMO. (same basic idea as x86 vs. x64 operating systems)

That bitrate should be fine, TV advertises a 5 Mbps limit anyway, but even that can be pushed. At this point, I would start looking at the profile used, etc.

  7. Hope someone can help!

My reason for using this tool is to ensure that my library is all iPad 2 compatible (which I have found also means my iPhone 3gs/4s also have no issues).

Any mkv's I had I used this tool to convert with no issues. Anything else I was previously using megui to convert directly to m4v. For awhile this worked flawlessly, until I think I allowed megui to update itself at which point by audio settings got blown.

This meant my last batch of encoding's all resulted in files that cannot be synced because the audio bitrate is greater than 160. They view fine (tested with FlexPlayer and 8player) but no sound can be heard.

So I've started using MkvToMp4 to re-encode these problem files. I add them, select edit mode for each file and then let it run. For reference I've left all the options at their default values in settings.

I'm finding that 2 thirds of the files are being fixed; their resulting audio bitrate is less than 160. The rest the bitrate is still coming out greater than 160. I'm sure there is a way I can limit it, but I cannot figure out in what way I need to alter the settings to make this so.

Can someone point me in the right direction?

    Much appreciated

  8. Dakon, I've converted many movies with this program. All movies under 8or 9gb I've had no problems. I've used the appletv setting the entire time and as I've said, the problem is only with the large mkv's. I've tried different profiles also. None worked for the large mkv's.

  9. I really love this tool and use it all the time. I was wondering if you are considering adding chapter searching. Perhaps, from chapterdb.org. I have seen other people mention tag-chimp but i believe chapterdb is better.

If that is too much trouble, maybe a feature to drag and drop chapter files. The tool ChapterGrabber can search and save chapter files. There are a number of chapter file types but at least 1 of the main ones like 'Matroska Chapters XML' would make this an all in 1 tool for me. Entering chapters 1 by 1 with the time markers is quite cumbersome.

    Thanks!

  11. This is really a fantastic application. It makes converting HD movies so I can watch them on my iPad and AppleTV so easy.

My question for oreons (or whoever can answer this) is, can MkvТоMp4 properly convert 7 channel (6.1) audio streams to stereo?

    Thank you in advance!

Oreons could answer it best, I have successfully down mixed 6 channel (5.1) to stereo several times myself, I wouldn't think it 6.1 should be a problem really. As long as it's compatible, which I haven't found an incompatible format yet.

  13. Since 0.222 (0.223 too) I have out of sync (audio with video)problems too. I'll try previous version, if that help, I don't know.
Btw. original MKV file is not out of sync , just new m4v file.

There was a problem with the frame rate before, Oreons linked this in an earlier post. (0.224 test). Worked for myself and others.

Has anyone noticed some instances where the output mp4/m4v file has no audio track? Its really strange as sometimes it occurs when the source audio is DTS (which i could understand, but again, i'm sure DTS worked on some occassions) other when its AC3. Any ideas?

Also, i've done a conversion, but the output ISNT in the same directory as the source MKV. Ive checked the temp folder in the MKVtoMP4 folder, and it's not their either (I suspect the converter deletes any temp files on completion?

I personally have not had any troubles with audio, aside from the previously mentioned sync issues.

    augustosanchez,
This is made specifically so as not to overwrite the name of the episode.

  19. Hi.

With a specific file the program returns a “2 input names specified, please check usage” error message, and I think it is because of “lang=eng / eng:name="" -add etc etc” during this part:

    Code:
    Starting Mp4Box with the parameters:
    Tools\MP4Box\MP4Box.exe -new -delay 1=1 -add "Temp\video.264":fps=25.000:lang=eng / eng:name="" -add "F:/Del/Temp/Girl_internal_audio_2.m4a"#1:fps=25.000:lang=eng:name="" -itags tool="MkvToMp4 [www.mkvtomp4.ru] version 0.223" "F:/Del\Girl.m4v" -tmp "Temp/Mp4Box"
On another episode of the same show conversion works fine, and that difference is that the other file does not have a double language definition in it (lang=eng:name="" -add etc etc):

    Code:
    Tools\MP4Box\MP4Box.exe -new -delay 1=1 -add "Temp\video.264":fps=25.000:lang=eng:name="" -add "F:/Del/Temp/Wife_internal_audio_2.m4a"#1:fps=25.000:lang=eng:name="" -itags tool="MkvToMp4 [www.mkvtomp4.ru] version 0.223" "F:/Del\Wife.m4v" -tmp "Temp/Mp4Box"
    AVC-H264 import - frame size 1280 x 720 at 25.000 FPS
    AVC Import results: 68671 samples - Slices: 1091 I 26177 P 41402 B - 1 SEI - 932 IDR
How can I find and edit that property in the mkv file to fix the problem? Or what else can I do to make it work?

I’ve tried converting the needed .mp4 manually out of source files (they were left in the temp directory) but the .m4v file was lacking and I couldn’t extract it because there were no program and parameter indications about it in the logs.

  20. I started using mkvtomp4 about 2 years ago... It's a GREAT tools to convert mkv to mp4!!! all the audios and subtitles are optional on my iOS devices and it make their m4v just like the m4v bought from the iTunes!!! And, from 0.218 to 0.223, awesome updates added to this software.

but I wanna post some suggestion about the tool for the nice developers~~

    a. If u convert the 720P to 480P with subtitles, the subtitle will move to one side of the screen but not in the middle of the screen.

    b. Could u add 540P support? Or just let the users to decide the resolution...

and I will continue using this tool, and if there is any other to suggest, i will add them here...

I hope the developers can see this and make mkvtomp4 better and better!!!

Would it be possible to allow DTS-HD (and possibly even Dolby TrueHD) audio tracks to be passed through from the source MKV into the output MP4 file?

It is possible to store DTS-HD audio in MP4, as Handbrake now allows this.

  22. Hi,

I tried using MkvToMp4 today to repack a 1.4GB MKV file to an MP4 using the iPad preset. The MKV file had H264 video and AC3 audio.

However, there was an issue where it would freeze for around 20 seconds at the Azid decoding to WAV stage. After this time the whole process would fail. I looked in the Temp folder and found that my .AC3 file was 1.3GB and my .264 file was 100MB!

For some reason, MkvToMp4 was thinking stream 0 was video and stream 1 was audio, but in the MKV file it was the opposite way around (stream 0 was audio and stream 1 was video). I used MKVMerge to swap the streams around (so video was now 0, as MkvToMp4 seems to expect), and MkvToMp4 worked correctly.

Anyway, I thought you may appreciate the bug report :P

  23. Hello Oreon

I use home sharing to play in the iphone and ipad the movie and video files (I need to buy apple tv in a near future)

I have a little problem with movie files of size 1920x1280 in the iphone, you put the tag ITUNESHDVIDEO with value 2 and the app videos of iphone don't see the movie, if i change the tag ITUNESHDVIDEO with the value 1, the iphone can see the movie and play fine.

I found in http://forums.mp3tag.de/lofiversion/index.php/t10847.html and http://help.mp3tag.de/main_tags.html the possible values of the tag
    ITUNESHDVIDEO: 1 = enable, 0 or empty = disable

I see you put the value 1 when the file is 1280x720 and value 2 for files of 1920x1280, (I suppose HD=1, FHD=2)

Cloud you put an option that define the default value for the tag ITUNESHDVIDEO for the FHD files (1980x1280)

Oreons i understand that, for that reason i ask to you the posibility to add a config option
FullHD Value Tag equal to HD Value Tag. The value for default is False.

    or

FullHD Value Tag with 2 posible values 1 and 2, and the default value equal to 2

So, the person that have an iphone could use the homesharing option with FullHD movies.

I will appreciate if you add the option.

    Tanks for all

    Feature Request:

I tend to use MkvtoMp4 to tag files that are already in an mp4/mv4 container, gets rather tedious to enable edit mode each time. Anyway, not a huge deal, but I do them in batch sometimes, so would be nice to have it automatically do it for mp4/m4v source files. Any other source (.avi, .mkv, etc., even .flv!) don't require it.

Never mind, learn something new everyday. lol

  29. HI,

thanks for this great program. It works perfect exept one little thing.
I'm missing the covers in iTunes.

What am i doing wrong? i waited till all covers were loaded.

also if you repack a whole series it takes very long to load the bunch of covers on every episode. It would be gread if you could cache all covers while one session, so they dont have to be reloaded every time.

Possibly a dumb question, but after it loads all the covers, are you actually choosing one? (as in it loads into the details)

After loading the cover, there should be a line for the artwork (you may need to enable edit mode, I've only had to do that if the source file was an .mp4)

I have never had to reload covers once I have let them all load the first time. Say there are 15; let them load, and the next time they are already there, as far as that goes I'm of no help. Oreons is good about responding though.
