Just looking for some advice for what would be the best ripping tool for BluRays on a Windows 7 64 bit machine. A lot of programs I've seen lately date back to 2009 (dumpHD), and i've read a lot of people seem to have trouble with AnyDVDHD.

If I am wrong, please let me know. I'm not trying to be snotty or anything, I'm just concerned about being able to rip and copy blurays.

DVDFab kept giving me burn errors.

NERO 10 copied fine, but end up wanting to copy 40 some odd gigs to my disc.

I appreciate the assistance. I am off to try DumpHD

Just rip with DVDFab (, shrink then with BDRebuilder) and burn with Imgburn.

    Baldrick,

I don't see how to rip to an img file though. I have DVDFab 8, and the rip feature only rips to various devices (xbox, ipad, etc), mkv, avi, M2TS, but no IMG files.

Don't I need it to become and img files to burn a bluray duplicate?

  4. Forget DumpHD unless you just want to play around with it. AnyDVDHD doesn't like it if DVDFab or DVDFabPasskey are installed and will complain that they will interfere with AnyDVD, even if they aren't running.

DVDFabPasskey will work okay in addition to DVDFab, I'm using it on Win7 X64. It's driver-level, so you can just copy/paste the folders to hard drive, or use Clown_BD to extract main movie to hard drive.

    Good luck.

[EDIT] To burn, open ImgBurn. In E-Z Mode Picker, select Write Files/Folders to Disc. Drag/drop or copy/paste the folders (BDMV and CERTIFICATE) into ImgBurn's list. Burn to disc.

You can create an image file with ImgBurn if you want to, but no, it's not necessary at any stage, strictly speaking.

And you're confusing conversion with ripping to hard drive. Rip with Fab, then use BDRB to re-encode if necessary, as Baldrick suggested.

I'm riping with FAB now to whatever it is XBOX likes. It looks like MT2S files. Does that sound right??

I'll dump everything that it rips into Imgburn as you describe above & burn. Looks like it will take a few hours to rip.

    Thanks for the advice!

I'm running Win 7 64 bit and I've had zero issues with AnyDVDHD for BluRay ripping. I did a lot of research between DVDFab and AnyDVD prior to purchasing and I decided to go with AnyDVDHD because DVDFab is kind of infamous for nickel and diming you to death. AnyDVD's pricing structure is more upfront. DVDFab makes it look like it's cheaper, but you'll be using it and you'll run into a situation where it's like DVDFab says to you "Oh. You want to do THAT? Yeah, that's gonna cost you extra. You haven't paid to do THAT yet." I read a lot of accounts where people paid a fairly cheap price for DVDFab but they kept having to pay more as they went to turn on more functionality. AnyDVD doesn't play that game.

Hmm. I ran DVDFab and only got the base movie. I was sorta hoping to get the entire BluRay. I tried using the Clone Mode at one point, and there is an old image file I assume is left over from that attempt. Unfotunatly ImgBurn says it is too big to burn to a bluray disc(?)

The BDMV and CERTIFICATE folders only have about 400 megs of files in it. From what I can tell the copy stopped somewhere in the previews.

Your thoughts and advice are always appreciated.

Ok, something is total messed up with the DVDFab the guy I bought my computer installed on my computer. I ended up removing it. I completely messed up my internet access when I tried using it.

I have Nero 10 installed also, and it seem to actually work. Can I rip and copy BluRay somehow with Nero?

    Thank you,

    Hal

Nero does NOT allow ripping and probably never will. Hollywood views ALL ripping as an illegal activity (not to make this thread digress, but because of the DMCA it's not a crazy argument either strictly from a legal standpoint). DVDFab and AnyDVD are made by companies whose headquarters are in countries that don't bow down to Hollywood. Nero is from Germany and Germany is fully under the sway of Hollywood and supports the US position on copyright.
