  1. look I searched the forum and I heard there used to be some topics on this but I can't find them so...
I have a SVCD in bin/cue format and wheather I burn it with fireburner or nero if I try to fast forward it just starts the movie over how do I fix this? would it be better if I burnt the mpeg 2 file ( when I burnt the mpeg 2 file with nero and tried to play it, it just made screeching sounds)

    Thank You.

  7. could ya be a little for detailed on where I put the file

EDIT: I found the ext folder on the svcd cd and it has a scandata folder that says SCAN_VCD then tons and tons of didfferent symbols on the page. Do I open my bin with ISO buster to replace that scandata

You put the file scandata.dat in de directory: EXT.
that's one of the 4 directories on a SVCD

  9. Yes, you should try to put the file scandata.dat in de directory: EXT.

For me with the APEX player, this can solve the FF/FR, but the Time Search function won't work anymore. So, I get back to I-Author, everything is perfect. It doesn't mater that it's discontinue since the software is still out there, (you know what I mean).

The only problem I found is output for I-Author is CIF format which only EZCD 4.XX can read. I just bought a new CD burner 24X, too sad that EZCD 4.XX doesn't support the new burner. So, I still burn the CIF file with my 8X burner.. I happy with it

I'm still search the other best way that could solve both: FF/FR and Time Search. It seems like dead end. That's why I get back to I-Author....

  11. on the I-Author tutorial it says turn your files into .mpa and .mpv How do I do that?

NOTE: I heard CCE 2.5 will do it but that converts avi to mpv I have the lord of the rings as mpegs

  12. .mpa is mp2, I use BeSweet which basically is : Azid and toolame to convert from .ac3.

You should go doom9.net, there are a lot of guides.

i'm having the same problem as everyone else, i've used nero and easyvcd (v.1.0.9)

both of them put the scandata.dat file into the ext folder

yet i still cannot play either of them on my comp (w/ mpg2 software codecs)

but they will play on my dvd (shinsonic dvd-100)

but i still can't fast forward.

do we have to accept that some dvds just won't ff?

It is a known problem that Philips DVD players (at least most of the models, some models might have a firmware fix) cannot FF/REW SVCDS longer than 40 minutes. It's no use trying different authoring/burning programs, it's the players fault! Using chapters helps, and SVCDs < 40 minutes work OK.

Have to add: tried VCDEasy, Nero, Philips SVCD Designer, I-author, TSCV and probably a few others personally. You really cannot FF/REW SVCDs longer than 40 minutes with Philips DVD players!

Not even SVCDs with a playtime shorter than 40 minutes? If you have an SVCD > 40 mins, you can't forward at all. SVCDs multiplexed with TMPGEnc don't FF/REW even if the playtime < 40 mins.

Demultiplexing & remultiplexing with BBMpg helps in this case.

There's always something you can do! First of all, your already burned SVCD should play if you just press "1" on the remote right after you inserted the disk. This way the player should skip the menu, which seems to be not working.

If you want an SVCD you can manage more easily, first extract the mpg file out of the bin/cue image (with vcdgear, or tools coming with VCDEasy should also do).

    2) Demultiplex this mpg with TMPGEncs mpeg tools and multiplex with bbmpeg as SVCD

    3) Author and burn with VCDEasy, create chapters for easier navigation.

Step 2) might not even be required, if you just have "update mpeg scan offsets" enabled in VCDEasy, which fixes SVCD streams multiplexed with chinese specs (TMPGEnc).

Guides can be found on www.doom9.org. Good luck!

Baker: Philips DVD player firmware upgrades can be found at the Philips syndicate (http://www.ianc.net/philips/downloads.shtml). There's also a forum.

However, there's no downloads for DVD 6xx series, and I'm not sure if this player even can be firmware upgraded. Furthermore, most of the people with players having an upgradable firmware still have the FF/REW problem even after upgrading to the newest version. Someone from Doom's forum even sent his plaer back to the factory for chip upgrading, but it didn't help, so eventually he bought a new player (NOT Philips).

I'm also considering this seriosly, as the REW/FF prblem is nothing compared to the problems this player has with SVCD subtitles (and SVCD playback in general).

    Check out this site: http://www.euroservice.pfr.philips.com/assistance/dvd/sommaire.htm
and look under 'DVD modèle Step2001- VFM2001 avec l'ensemble SD3.0/3.3'.
There's a new firmware (Version 4.15O-0) available for many models, including 612, 622, 712 and 722 which is supposed to fix FF/RW on VCD (they may mean SVCD) and freezing according to the French description. There's also info on replacing the ROM on several players with a flash rom. Looks like some players were equiped with non-flashable roms and other with flashable ones.

I have not personally tested this firmware since I've returned my player to Philips (yes I was that guy on doom9 ).

I'm authoring with ULEAD MF and have the same prob as anyone: no chapter skip with SVCD.So I triued the advice with "scandata.dat".
I created the .ixa with MF, extracted the files with isobuster, added the scandata.dat to the EXT dir.
The I use Nero to burn a SVCD, Nero accepted the mpg video.
Then I copied the files from the .ixa image and burned the SVCD.
The SVCD played fine, but no menu/chapters.
What did I do wrong? Can't I copy the files produced by MF to the dirs?

Did you by any chance try if the RC6-multi-region hack still works?

  28. I had the same problem when I burned Svcd, yes vcdeasy will work fine but i found it would sometimes not burn the whole film. With nero I had the latest version and i would not be able to ff/rew when watching them. With the latest version of nero they were putting the scandata file in the ext for u. The way I cured this was using a version of nero that allowed u to put the scandata file in manually and it works perfect with svcd.
