Hello all, I took a video with a JVC Emerio Camcorder Model GZ-MG157U intending to post the video on youtube but did not use the PAUSE button in between so I ended up with like 25 separate video clips, upon transferring the video clips to my pc, they show as 2 file types .MOV and .MOI, the clips all play well in Windows Media Player but now I am trying to merge all 25 clips in sequence as just one video for youtube. I tried importing the clips into Windows Movie Maker for this purpose but the clips do not show I am guessing without the MOI file, the MOI files cannot import giving this error message :

The file C:\pics\von\video\MOV001.MOI cannot be imported because the codec required to play the file is not installed on your computer. If you have already tried to download and install the codec, close and restart Windows Movie Maker, and then try to import the file again.

Can anyone tell me please how I can merge the clips as one video file to post on youtube please using any method? Thanks.

Isn't it mod files? Not mov.

The mod files contains mpeg2 video. It might work to merge them with vobmerge (copy /b), add all the files by select all files(*.*) and then save as one .mod (or .mpg) file. Then try play the file and see how it works.

Windows Movie Maker does not handle mpeg2/mod/mpg files very well.

No, the 2 files for each clip read as MOV001.MOD and MOV001.MOI e.t.c so 2nd clip read as MOV002.MOD and MOV002.MOI and so on, should I still try what you've written above please?

Try just join the MOVXXX.MOD files.

vkmast: sdcopy might also work. Does it join the files also?

No, it just imports, that's why I took it off. Some NLEs might accept the imported .mod, at least VMS does.

I added only the MOD files as suggested but I am getting an "I/O error 32" when I hit the "Merge" tab?

Strange. I tried google it...no solutions...

Then use videoredo($$$) or the free avidemux, open the first mod and it should load all files, under format choose mpg, save as a new mpg.

I opened the first file in Avidemux and saved but it only saved that one file so I guess it did not import all files?

You might have to append the second file in avidemux, file->Append and I HOPE it loads the rest of the files.

What? I just used SDcopy v.199851d and and it gave me one .mpg file, which my NLE opens with no trouble...

edit: I tested it with a Win7 Live MovieMaker and it accepted it too.

Did you try to import the .mpg file to Windows Movie Maker? I just did that too with my older computer , which has XP and old MovieMaker. No problem, I got the video and the audio OK.

edit: from a modcopy link:A tool for copying video files from memory stick based camcorders to hard disk. Copies MOD movie files from SD(HC) card and renames the file extension to MPG. In addition the widescreen flag is detected in the MOI file and applied to the MPG file.

Maybe SDcopy does just that too?

Did you drag a clip to the timeline? If you did and could not get the video, I don't know. Maybe Canon SD files differ from JVC ones.

I only find this alternative http://sourceforge.net/projects/modcopy/

Well, I don't know then...This workflow does do it here for me, tested it again with VMM5.1 / WinXP, no problem...
Something's obviously wrong, but I can't make out what. JVC files must differ from Canon ones here so it's not working.
Maybe there's something for you in here http://www.webcollation.co.uk/MOD_Files.php
    or in the modcopy link
This may be a newer version of SDcopy http://members.aon.at/sektionschef/SDcopyV1.999851dbeta.zip
I think I have this one here.

    mikehende,

getting even odder (found this just somewhere):

ISSUE- cannot play mpeg in wmm.. all it does is play the audio..
SOLUTION- drop clip in “STORYBOARD” and not on “TIMELINE”.
once I dropped on storyboard and went back to timeline view, it played properly.
    Was able to continue editing...

    I tried the instructions here:

    http://www.webcollation.co.uk/MOD_Files.php

but it converted the files to .wmv and this does not import into WMM or play on my pc. I am not seeing where the "storyborad" is?
