    Greetings all -
I have encoded several hundred titles using HandBrakeCLI for streaming to roku player. The files are 2500 bitrate + 160 audio, this is the command I used in my batch script:

    "HandBrakeCLI -i my_full.vob -o my_movie.mp4 -e x264 -b 2500 -B 160 -R 48 -E faac -f mp4 -m -O -2 -T -x ref=2:bframes=2: subme=5:me=umh"

These movies look & play great from a remote apache server to roku. Last week I tried to use the same files with PS3 and they keep freezing & buffering more than once per minute.

From googling around, hulu faced this same problem when they launched on PS3. I wonder what they did to get around it?
I tried using the PS3 settings I found on a forum post here http://ccn.ucla.edu/users/jkyle/weblog/36aae/HandBrakeCLI_Presets.html like this:

    "HandBrakeCLI -i my_full.vob -o my_movie.mp4 -B 160 -R 48 -E AAC -e x264 -f MP4 -m -b 2500 -x level=41"

The result seemed marginally better but still way too much freezing and buffering. Incidentally, I tested and these same files play great on Revue googleTV. Somewhere [ http://www.ypass.net/blog/2009/04/streaming-movies-over-80211g-wifi-to-a-ps3/ & https://trac.handbrake.fr/ticket/27 ] I read that one needs to keep the bitrate below 1500kbps in order to avoid buffering on PS3, but I don't imagine this is what hulu has done. is it?

Ideally I'd like one 2500 kbps MP4 file that can play on roku & PS3. But I'm having trouble finding settings to create a high (2500 kbps+) bitrate that plays over the WAN to PS3 without freezing...
Has anyone seen this problem or know how to get around it?

    TYVMIA

Apparently my PS3 was lacking a system update, after doing that, the HandBrakeCLI encoded videos play just fine
Seems like sometimes all it takes is a public forum posting before the solution magically appears.
    Thanks everyone!!

OK now I've got another issue. The files play great for me, but some people are having problems where the files won't play on PS3 at all; they get "Data is corrupted". We tried putting the same files on a CDN and then they work great for those same people. I would be inclined to think the bandwidth is the issue however the CDN told us that the first people who load the content will need to wait while it's cached, so now I wonder if there is a different apache setting or module that they're using that might resolve this issue for those users having the problems?
