  1. Hi,

While my other post is being answered (), I have another question.

Is that possible, through a no-so-hard-to-use app to create DVD Structure, I mean, convert some AVI's, with one or more Audio Tracks, add some subtitles (optional) and etc. but without a DVD Menu?

And, through the same app or not, "read" this structure and build the menu from it?

Let me explain. I'm not so "versatile" in DVD Authoring. All the tasks I did before was using Nero Vision to build two movies in a single disc, to watch in home, nothing so professional.

If you know Nero Vision, you know the Menus, even Animated, are more funny than professional.

Thinking about it, I tried several other apps, but none of them made me fully satisfied.

Sometimes, the app accepted multiple video files, multiple audio tracks, multiple selectable subtitles, but the Menu created is terrible.

Sometimes, the app accepted multiple video files, but no multiple audio tracks nor selectable subtitles. But the Menus are a little better (Nero Vision is an example)

    Do you understand me?

I would like something simple, but not child. Something like an animated menu with, for example, cartoon's vignette in the background and the usual links "Play All", "Episodes" (since "Chapters" would be weird) and Settings.

In "Episodes" or "Settings" could be a static image, very simple, but elegant. That kind of stuff.

I'm not saying I WILL create a DVD with multiple audio tracks (specially because I don't speak multiple languages - yet!) or multiple subtitles (subtitled cartoons sounds weird to me), but if I can do this with a simple cartoon, I can do with other things, from amateur to semi-professional works, without use megalomanic DVD Authoring Tools.

There are several programs capable of authoring DVDs without menus. IFOEdit, muxman, and AVS2DVD are three that I have tried. I don't know any that can import a menuless DVD file structure and automatically author a DVD with menus.

You might want to try AVS2DVD for authoring. It can make DVDs from avi sources and the menu wizard looks like it can create something close to the kind of menu you describe.

[Edit] Subtitled cartoons are common. There are many anime fans who do not speak Japanese but will only watch anime with original audio and subtitles instead of a dubbed version in their own language.

You will need to learn how to use complex DVD authoring tools to do professional-quality work.
You cannot achieve professional-quality results using simple one-click software.

  3. It's possible to add another (short) movie as background with AVS2DVD? In all the tutorials and screenshots I saw so far, I'd never saw a menu using a movie instead a static picture...

After adding all the videos, audio tracks, and subtitles for the DVD...

    1. Click "DVD Menu" then "Menu Wizard"
    2. Click on the "Layout" tab.
    3. Select "Motion Menu"
    4. Make whatever additional menu design choices you want on the "Layout", "Template", and "Options" tabs. (Some relate to motion menus.)
    5. Click "Run Editor"
    6. Select "Edit" for "Mode"
    7. Select "Background" from the box containing a list of menu properties
    8. Use the "Video" input box under "Item Graphic Properties" to choose the video to use for your menu's motion background

    Bruno,

Sounds like about where I am (were) with creating DVDs. Not that I've done any in a couple years, but I found that DVD Movie Factory (v6 was the last I used) seemed to give me the mix I was looking for. Not exactly a one-click with only a few options but not some $10k package that would take years to master either.

I was able to do everything you described: Movie background for the main menu, import different video/audio codecs, setup menus and chapters if needed.
    Have a good one,

    neomaine
