I have a 16:9 video I've been trying to convert to x264 avi using 2-pass mode in VirtualDub. When I check the resulting file with MediaInfo I don't see a 16:9 notice and when uploaded to YouTube, it isn't recognized as 16:9.

Can anyone clue me in to what needs to be done to end up with 16:9?

    Thanks

Maybe mpeg4modifier can adjust the avi headers to 16:9. Or it might be mpeg4 asp/divx/xvid only.

Or resize to a 16:9 resolution/video frame size with virtualdub.

x264 is a square pixel format. so whatever size you make it, is how it's shown. 1280x720 is an example of a 16x9 size.

no it supports non square pixels, but for youtube resizing uisng square pixels is probably better

if you wanted to use non square pixels , you use --sar x:y , where x:y is the width:height of pixels similar to Pixel Aspect Ratio. In MPEG4 terminology it's called Sample Aspect Ratio or SAR

you would use 32:27 for 720x480 full frame 16:9 , or 40:33 if you were basing your calculations on 704 pixel size or SD blu-ray

    16/9 = 720/480 x 32/27
