This one is not in my toolbox, but it claims to do fades, according to the site:

This Wondershare Vivideo tool indeed does fades. I imported a MPEG2 , added a fade out and exported back to MPEG2.

Unfortunately the image of the video had become slightly pixelated. The original MPEG2 was 114,2 MB. The exported MPEG2 was 66,6 MB.

    Increase the bitrate.

I didn't know I could do this: increasing the original bitrate. But indeed, I can.

Is there a way to find out the original bitrate of the video I imported? If the edited/exported video has the same bitrate as the original/imported video, than I guess there's no difference in quality?

You can check the source bitrate with MediaInfo.

But even if you use same bitrate as your source you will lose a bit quality.

Baldrick, thank you very much for your information.

I'm not sure I will buy Wondervideo's Vivideo for the Mac. $ 40 is a lot of money for adding fade ins and fade outs to MPEG's. I'm not even sure Vivideo does fade ins. It only seems to be capable of handling transitions at the end of the video's, not at the beginning.

Kdenlive sure looks promising, but installing it is another cup of tea. I would prefer another MPEG editor for the Mac. But which one? There don't seem to be that many.
