  1. Hi,
Firstly I want to say, that I want to buy a DSLR for taking good looking photos.

If I want to film something, will I be able to film 2 hours without overheating problems? I only want to capture a static shot, so I could probably save the extra money for an expensive camcorder with autofocus.

I know that I have to focus manually with the DSLR to get good looking footage and that these DSLRs only capture 4GB files, so about 12 min per file.

    thanks

Yes. DSLRs only shoot short video because of overheating. You'll never get near 2 hours of video in one shot.

  3. So if I want to film longer, then I need a camcorder, right?
How much could I record with a DSLR without overheating problems?

    thanks

Most DSLRs I have ever seen have a built-in cut off time for video. I have a Nikon D90 that stops after 2GB of video....but that is probably because of the FAT32 memory card. "Live View" on a D90 is also limited and Nikon says that it is limited because the camera will overheat. I don't remember ever seeing the word "overheating" being used in the D90 manual while filming video.
The video from my D90 is OK....but honestly I always grab my little Canon Ixus 90 for video clips....and use my Canon MiniDV video camera for long videos.

  5. Another reason for limiting the length of time a camera can capture video in europe is tax.

  6. Yeah the tax shit ... 29 min 59 sec is the limit, right?

Can you please recommend me what I should buy:

An EOS 5D Mark II(I) when available / EOS 1D X with filming accessoires or

    a 600D for pics and a XF100/105 for video (50.000 kBit/s CBR) and 48.000 Hz Wave-Audio

    please help me
