  1. Sorry if this should go in the photo board, this just seems very general so thought I'd ask here but mods feel free to move it if needed.

So anyways, need help, I know very little about scanning/photo editing so bear with me.

My tower crashed and I got a new one but the HP software for my print/scan/copy machine (Photosmart C5580) won't load on Windows 7 (don't know why, I heard W7 will take everything but the message says op sys not compatible and won't let me go any futher with installation of it & it's only a couple years old, I know, a couple of years in this stuff is big but it's not from the 70s or anything).

I was still able to hook it up and scan/print/copy from it but I used to descreen jpegs I'd scan through the HP software and I can't find a screening option on anything else I have.

So between Photoshop Elements 7, ReadIris Pro 11, Windows Photo Gallery & Viewer, Movie Maker, Media Center & Paint, does anyone know if any of these will descreen a jpeg scan (I think the only one of these I can use to scan is ReadIris but I tried this (and "Windows Fax & Scan" but to no avail) maybe under a different phrase or something (I've looked through the menus of each but can't find anything remotely close but hopefully someone here can say "it's staring (me) in the face under (this name)".

If not, can someone recommend reliable but cheap software that will definitely do this that I can get?

Thanks in advance for the replies.

There are undoubtedly specific Photoshop filters for descreening (I used to use Extensis Intellihance) but you can do it using a Gaussian blur -- adjust the parameters until it's just strong enough so the screening is gone, and then you might do a sharpen to reduce the softening that the blur made.
