  1. I crashed my motorcycle while filming with my GoPro HD. During the crash, the Go Pro's battery cover popped open and the battery came out just enough to come off the contacts and lose power. Luckily the camera is fine, just put the battery back in and put the battery cover back on.

    But since I never hit the stop recording button and the camera lost power while it was recording, the video isn't finished properly. This is the error message when Win Media Player tries to play it;

    "Windows Media Player cannot play the file. The Player might not support the file type or might not support the codec that was used to compress the file."

    Its an MP4 file, 720MB.

    I googled for hours try to find fixes and everything seemed to be a dead end. I tried http://goprohacks.blogspot.com/p/how-to-restore-gopro-mp4-corrupted-or.html program to fix the MP4 file and I was able to start their program, input the file's name, enter the video type "ntscr3", enter the compensation value of 0 and this is the error message this program gave me;

    "The system cannot find the path specified. 'pearl' is not recognized as an internal or external command, operable program or batch file."

    Does anybody know how I can fix this MP4 file?

    Thanks!

    sounds like you didn't install perl - it's a programming language. after the install from your link, you will need to reboot then try to run the perl script.

  3. I am thinking that that fix program wasn't installed properly as well.

    I just tried rebooting, didn't work, same result.

    The fix program comes zipped. After I unzipped it, there were 2 files. fix.pl 10kb and run_me.cmd 1kb
    It doesn't make sense to zip a program that is only 11kb?!

    I used 7zip and FYzip, both, to unzip the program. Both gave me the same result of 11kb

    if you right click/edit open the files you will see they are just text. the size is fine.

    if it's still saying perl isn't recognized as a command something is wrong with the perl install, did you install the 32 or 64 bit version? maybe install both. or possibly cmd.com needs to be set to run as admin.

  5. I'm not sure if it was the 32bit or 64bit version, I didn't see a label. I didn't see an option to install both. How would you setup cmd.com to run as admin?

    Thanks for the help, sorry I'm not super computer savy

  6. Ok, saw that by right clicking on cmd.com I could run it as admin. Went ahead and did that and ended up with the same error message;
    "The system cannot find the path specified. 'pearl' is not recognized as an internal or external command, operable program or batch file."

    Put the SD card back in the camera, turn it on, and it will flash SOS and repair the file.

  9. I tried the SD card, but the camera never gives me the SOS and doesn't repair the file...

    Do a search on GoPro here in the forum. There was a post a couple months back with details about that. I'll try to find it too.

  11. Thanks for the link, but you'll see on my first post that I tried their fix program, but I can't get their program to work.

    Did you try to simply remux with AVIDemux?

    Part of the information in that link says the problem is the index, not the video, that's why a player won't open it.

    For H.264, which is what GoPro video is, AviDemux makes it's own index. It will give you a scary warning about "H.264 Detected...", just proceed ahead.

  15. I'll try that run_me.cmd on someone else's computer and see if it works then. If it does, I can simply transfer the file to them via the SD card.

    if it's small enough you can put it up on a filesharing site and post the link here for people to try and fix for you.

    here's a comparison - http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Comparison_of_file_hosting_services

    maybe megaupload?

    700mb is not going to get many people to check the file for you. it's a bit big and you'd need to chop it up into smaller 50mb parts with winrar and then create par recovery files to make sure it was complete and without transmission errors.

    Strange, I dowmloaded that AVI program from your link. I'll look at that link again and see if I can figure out where it went wrong.

    I uploaded the file while you were posting, http://www.fileswap.com/dl/Ko830xIx8x/003.MP4.html
    But its big like you said. I'll look into finding a way to chop down the size of the file. I only want the last minute of the file anyway, the crash. So hopefully there's a file chopping program that will chop the end of the video file. But if its not indexed or something, will a chopping program even know the end from the beginning.

    Thanks

  22. OK, found a file splitter and uploaded what I hope is the last split file in the video, its much smaller. 1.27mb

    Charlesbusa, can you upload a short, known-good, file from the same device.
    It often helps when analyzing the bad file to have something to compare it to.

    Strange, the link is automatically created by this forum, and I just checked it, and it DOES go to AVIDemux, but yet you managed to download something else.

    the perl script can make the video playable in vlc.

    what is your bike a 250cc 2-stroke? you pull out of the garage, leave the paddock, enter the track, do 2 laps missing most apexes and getting passed by other riders. the video ends as you enter the front stretch the second time. no crash.
