  1. I use the PNG Codec in the MOV container as the file format for videos I use for editing. I do this using MPEG StreamClip. The question I have is in the options for the codec is says "filter:" and the drop down as a list of choices: Best, None, Sub, Up, Average, Paeth, Adaptive. What do those setting effect? I did a quick test using "Best" and the file size was smaller than using "None"

Does anyone know what those settings do? and how do they effect your video?

What they do/how they affect the video is that some will be better suited than others for certain material; those better suited will give you better compression (slightly smaller sizes). Since you can't really change the filter WITHIN a stream, you're already making a compromise based on the material of the whole stream. It can pretty much be ignored, as it won't affect your size enough to worry about these days.

    HOWEVER,

You should know that there is NO "PNG" video codec outside of Quicktime, so you're cross-compatibility is low - you would need to export to a picture sequence or to an uncompressed video stream to use with VFW/Directshow in Windows or to use in Linux. Are you sure you want to do that? (note that there are other lossless options in QT - Animation/100%, Ensharpen, Microcosm, Bitjazz/Sheervideo, BlackMagic, supposedly Pixlet has a lossless mode, but NONE are totally cross-platform)

  3. Thanks for the reply! I am actually testing SheerVideo right now... thinking that may be the best option out there.
