  2. i've heard the same by i've put it aside as crap, quicktime can read mpg, vcd is mpg, osx has quicktime. as to the encoders and such i don't know of any free ware soft that do that on a mac, you might consider either a pc emulator or terran's media cleaner pro.

The freeware MPEG-1 encoder I used before I acquired Toast Titanium is called Movie2MPEG.

As for a non-freeware solution, Toast Titanium includes a VCD encoder. The trick is, your Quicktime file has to be 74 minutes or less, or Toast will not bother to encode it.

A hard-to-find (but really, its easy to find!) solution that will make Toast-ready files is Astarte M.Pack.

  4. One other way to watch VCDs on a Mac running on OS X is to reboot back to OS 9 ad then open the files. For some reason I am unable to fathom, QuickTime is perfectly able to let you watch VCDs in OS 9 but not in OS X. Alternatively, you could do as I did and cough up about $20 for an app. like MacVCDX. It has the advantage of letting you watch your movie in full-screen mode and gives slightly better picture quality.
