  1. Hello all,

Hope someone can help me. I maintain a site where there is an area to stream mp4 files, that I have ripped myself. This works if I just rip the file and use adobe flash player to play it back on the site. The problem arises if I try and edit the mp4 file. For example I try and cut the first few seconds of the film and then play it with the flash player, but the audio and video are out of sync even though when I play the file in Quicktime it works fine.
I'm guessing it's because QT has some autosync feature that the flash player doesn't. I would usually rip the films in handbrake using a higher bitrate and then convert them again using MPEG Streamclip. This is just a very timeconsuming process and I'd like to know if there is an easier way to do this, without having to rip and then convert the file.

    Any suggestions?
    Thanks!

    Edit before you convert.
And you are not "ripping" anything.....you are converting. A "rip" is an exact copy of a DVD or Blu Ray with no changes to the video compression or quality whatsoever.

  3. I might not have explained myself properly. I rip DVDs to begin with using Handbrake. I rip them to an mp4 file with specifications that work on the website. That's not the issue. After I rip the film, there might be colourbars or things I'd like to cut away and have tried doing so using different editors. The problem is then that when I edit a file and try to play it on the website using Adobe Flash Player plays the files are out of sync. It seems that the editing programme edits video and not audio or something to that effect.

I can solve the problem by ripping the DVD at a higher bitrate than usual and then converting the file again to an mp4 file in MPEG Streamclip, but it's just very timeconsuming. I was just wondering if there was an easier way. Hope that explains it a bit more.

Editing mp4 h264 often cause such problems. It's much better to edit dvd vobs with for example mpeg streamclip, avidemux and then convert it to mp4.

  5. OK, that sounds good. I can open up the DVD, edit it in MPEG Streamclip and then rip it using Handbrake. What do I save the DVD under? Or is there a guide on this website that explains all this? Thanks again.

A "rip" is an exact copy of a DVD or Blu Ray with no changes to the video compression or quality whatsoever. MP4 is not DVD MPEG2 so you are converting....not ripping.

  7. Oh and I deal with a lot of foreign films, so I need to have the subtitles as well. I just tried to edit the VOB file of one of the films like you suggested, but I couldn't figure out how to get the subtitles on there.

You seriously need to develop a new work-flow.
    1) Decrypt/Rip your DVD to your computer HDD with DVDFabDecrypter
    2) Use VOB2MPEG to compile all of the VOB files into one MPEG2 file
    3) Edit (Plenty of free MPEG cutters out there)
    4) Choose which "MP4" you want to use along with which "container" you want to use and convert.
