Seems the issue is the linkage between the OP's chair and keyboard. A false alarm. Going back to DefCon 1. zzzzzz

Navigator, take the helm, Koik Out.

  2. I have picvideo installed too, and it's not posterized in my display....

Try disabling it (you can use vcswap to temporarily disable it), and use ffdshow (enable mjpeg in the vfw configuration)

Neither budwzr, aedipuss or myself seem to have the posterization issues

    Regarding the levels issue -

If you use 8bit project settings, it will decode to studio RGB 16-235 (levels will be washed out, black level elevated)

If you use 32-bit linear, it will decode full range RGB (looks proper contrast)

Both pictures in your 1st post look "washed out" with elevated black level (probably you used 8bit settings)

Note this is different than the youtube mjpeg issue (3rd issue)

  5. I'm beginning to think something with either your graphics card settings or monitor settings

Do you get those artifacts in a media player like VLC, or MPCHC ?

  6. No, only in browser, i reinstalled drivers couple times.

i don't have picvideo mjpeg codec installed. mine uses the sony mjpeg codec and both 8bit and 32bit were fine, the top pic i posted is 8bit the bottom is 32bit.

Use AVIDemux and remux to AVC/AAC .MP4., seems like PicVideo sucks.

That's a lot of time, no reason to use vegas.
Maybe you guys know alternative to PicVideo? Or MJPG decoder.

    Is this a fraps capture?

  12. No it's a youtube mjpeg issue . It decodes mjpeg at full range (libavcodec issue)

    ENcoder ?

FFDshow has MJPG encoder as well as decoder

By why MJPG ? it seems to be causing you problems

Good speed, compression, quality, i tried many lossless codecs, but MJPG is still the best.
I have this issue only in Vegas.

  17. Thanks everyone for your help, i'll just use something else.

  18. The MJPEG levels problem can easily be worked around by adjusting the levels in Vegas.

I just installed my old Pic Video MJPEG 2.1 codec. When it converts RGB to YUV for compression it uses the full 0-255 range for the luma channel. Most other programs use the standard REC matrix which only uses the 16-235 range. So other programs usually display the video with too much contrast -- darks too dark, brights too bright, with blown out features at both ends. Vegas has other peculiarities when dealing with Video. Poisondeathray can give you details on that.

  20. edDV has posted images of the waveform monitor in Vegas.

There are probably some posts by him that show how to make the adjustments too. Poisondeathray will probably chime in eventually. You're looking for brightness and contrast filters.

  21. But the levels issues don't explain why he's getting worse posterization.

I see 3 issues here: #1 the posterization, #2 the levels in vegas (already explained), #3 youtube levels with mjpeg (already explained)

To recap the levels issue, you can use a studio RGB to computer RGB preset filter or the opposite (computer to studio) depending on how your vegas is set up. If you setup a 8bit project vs. 32bit full range project, it will also affect how vegas treats it as 0-255 vs. 16-235. Those are the only options you need to worry about in terms of levels. If you want to fine tune you can use the actual levels filter

He's getting something entirely different even upon importing in vegas, and it's already posterized . This is different than the other vegas users in this thread, and I have same picvideo decoder installed. But for him, vdub doesn't get the posterization... and I assume it's using same picvideo decoder....

He's also getting weird browser artifacts . I think there is something else going on with drivers, graphics card or hardware

  22. Check this
    1 - Default
2 - Forced YUV output in PicVideo decoder

    Both ecnoded in vegas.
