  1. I have MPEG 2 files which are 720 x 480. They have AC3 2 channel audio. I can easily create a BluRay without re-encoding. However I cannot make a DVD. I'm using MultiAVCHD Version 4.1. I notice in the log window when it's muxing the DVD that it says "SD-DVD muxing failed!".

Could somebody please give tell me which options I should select to get it to make a DVD. Do I need to download additional codecs to get the DVD muxing to work?

  2. Just having them be 720x480 doesn't insure they'll author for DVD. There are other restrictions as well, including framerate, bitrate, and GOP lengths. If it doesn't give a reason, my suggestion is to demux (one way is opening the MPEG in DGIndex and then File->Save Project and Demux Video) followed by authoring using Muxman. If it aborts for one reason or another check the Muxman log (in the root of the C drive) for the reason.

  3. I created the DVD folders with MuxMan and imported them into MultiAVCHD but it still get the same error message.

I also used VideoRedo to make a DVD with no menu and then imported that into MultiAVCHD but it still doens't work. The original MPEG-2 file was saved with VideoRedo anyway so it's already compliant.

Is there a particular reason why you need to use MultiAVCHD, since it is unable to work with the files you want to author?

If a regular DVD is acceptable instead of an AVCHD DVD disc, you could use ImgBurn to burn a DVD using the DVD structure created by Muxman. There are also other free, easy DVD authoring programs you could try, AVStoDVD, FAVC, DVDFlick or DVDAuthorGUI for example.

  5. I just don't understand why MultiAVCHD won't make a DVD. It made a BluRay out of an MPEG 2 file yet if I try to make a DVD out of the same file it doesn't work.

I could use one of the programs you mentioned but it would mean that I would have twice the work to do because I would have to enter all the chapter names again which would take ages wheareas in MultiAVCHD I only have to do it once. Also the menus would look different. I'm selling some videos I made and I want the menus to look the same on BluRay and on DVD.

I noticed that the video files are 720x480. If you have PAL60 video, DVD authoring should not work for either NTSC or PAL because the DVD spec does not support PAL60. If it is NTSC video, authoring a PAL DVD using those sources should not work because that is an NTSC resolution.

  7. I already had NTSC selected in the program. The frame rate of the files is 29.97

Post the MeidaInfo report for one of the problem files (use the text view option). Maybe someone will see what is wrong. ...or maybe you should try contacting MutiAVCHD's author.

I have to point out that banging your head against the wall trying to make MultiAVCHD work is also taking considerable time. If nobody spots an obvious problem with your files that can be addressed by using different settings in MultiAVCHD, it might be more productive to use a different program that accepts your video files. It may be possible to re-create the menus MultAVCHD produces using another authoring program with screenshots from a MultiAVCHD menu.

The website of the author of the program was taken down long ago and development on the program was also stopped long ago. Does the author still post on any forums? If so, please let me know and I'll ask him about my problem.

Has anbody successfully made DVDs (without re-encoding) using MultiAVCHD? If so could you please let me know what settings you used. Thanks

The current version of multiAVCHD was released about a year ago, so it isn't all that long out of date. The author is still a member of VideoHelp, and he has come around once in a while. His user name is multiAVCHD. You could try sending him a PM.

Sorry I can't offer any more help than I already have. I downloaded MultiAVCHD a while ago and took a peek at it, but since I don't own a Blu Ray player, it isn't much use to me at present. I already use other programs to author DVDs, and they do a good job, so there was really no reason for me to learn to use multiAVCHD for DVDs.
