I downloaded a wmv file 464 mb in size. The video plays for a few seconds then without warning my media player shuts down. I've tried playing the video in wmp, vlc and gom media player and all of them shut down at the same time. I've also tried fixing the file in asfbin and this program also shuts down. I don't really know how to use asfbin and I've never actually fixed any files with it but it doesn't crash during the repairing process with any other video file.

So is there any way to diagnose the problem with this file and if so can it be fixed?

I remember the old days of downloading MP3's from Napster and they would play fine for about 20 secs, long enough to give a typical test listen, and then start screeching noise the rest of the song. Turns out H'wood was flooding Napster with bogus copies.

Just for confirming that the file you downloaded is b0rked, open it in VirtualDub, then tell us what happens.

None of my video files appear in the file directory when i try to open a file using virtual dub (via: open virtual dub -> file -> open video file -> open folder -> no video) I've tried the 64 bit version and the new beta version.
